Happy New year to the Brits and other Euros now celebrating.

Do the English still practice "first footing" on New Years Eve?

No clue what First Footing is :p

I had a profitable, if not highly sociable New Years Eve..

Can't wait to move in the New Year ;o)

First Footing..

The first male visitor to the house after midnight is usually supposed to bring good luck. Usually they bring a gift like money, bread, or coal, which is done to ensure the family will have plenty of these things all the year to come. The first person must not be blond, red-haired or a woman as these people are supposedly bad luck.

First footing has much greater significance in Scotland, where the red heads have to be very careful with their visiting.
