WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Jim Haslett, whose beleaguered New Orleans Saints team was forced into a season-long road trip after Hurricane Katrina, was one of four head coaches fired on Monday.
The other three dismissed were Mike Martz of the St Louis Rams, Mike Sherman of the Green Bay Packers and Dom Capers of the Houston Texans.
"This was a decision I made that came with great consideration and thought," Saints general manager Mickey Loomis told a news conference.
"It wasn't a move I thought necessary without careful evaluation of all the factors involved this year and in past seasons."
New Orleans had a 3-13 win-loss record in 2005, playing home games in San Antonio, Baton Rouge (Louisiana) and East Rutherford (New Jersey) with the hurricane-ravaged Louisiana Superdome unavailable. Haslett was 45-51 during six seasons in New Orleans. He was named NFL Coach of the Year after leading the Saints to the NFC West title in 2000.
