Believe it or not...but alot of coachs will concede a FG than a TD...and wont even practice trying to get a block...Plus, its a higher risk play anyways, which at the angles the outside guy needs to rush at..and do so without any control...it can lead to a penalty giving opponents another 4 downs to score a TD.
If they try to block from the middle, there's the injury that can happen when players come down on someones foot...And, there's this stupid penalty also..which you can get if the player who goes up for the block comes down on top of another player...I not sure if only in the Pros its rule..but the person who jumps cannot in anyway come down on someone...He must jump straight up and come straight down...from what I believe...His jump up and also coming down cannot be stalled, stopped, or paused in anyway...I think he will even get a penalty if he needs to use his hands on the way down to avoid falling on his own teammate....It's to guard against someone helpiong you to jump higher or stay up in the air longer....Not to much chances blocking doing this anyways...And again, if the coach only cares about stopping a team from scoring TDs..so will the players, as they look upon it as a victory...Not to mention that its now the offense's job to score TDs anyways...Funny but it seems that no matter how much of this game is affected by those stupid FG's..the mentallity is FGs dont win games ...Scoring TDs and not giving up TDs is how you win games...This explains why so many teams, depending on the type of coach wont waste a scholarship on a kicker..
I dont know..but I would hire 2 seven footers that can jump to play only on FG defense...However, I think that theres the issue of them looking like two dorks in FB uniforms...and thats why its not being done...Cause it could work..but again, I guess no one wants to look stupid doing it, huh.
I also think that some just play the odds and let the FG kicker who basically has all the pressure on him, just attempt it...cause it outweighs the risk of penalty or injury..
However, for us betters...we wish they would at least try blocking it...especially if it will ruin our cover...Funny thing is were like the teams, we only care about blocking it if it would cost us a win...anytime else we could care less about it...LOL..
