No clue really what a miner would earn, it seems like a rough life, all the danger and would seem to be a natural health hazard just working in them, is it atleast a high paying job?

Anyone have any idea...just curious.

The average weekly wage for a miner is $751.30 x 52 weeks = $39,067.60/year divided by 300 days (average) = $130.23/day.

Not many options in West Virginia.

I've never even thought about a Miner before this news, what exactly they do, what they make ,anything.

I'm sure this tragedy will help other miners and the industry regulations enforced much more strictly.

In the small mining towns, the mine is usually the best paying job around-and also the most dangerous-especially when these companies are breaking regulations left & right.

Thanks Tony,,,they daily rate would be somewhat higher though would it not, unless you're counting a 6 day work week.

52 X 5 would be 260..or do they average 6 days a week?

Story just reported that a minors job is not even in the top 15 dangerous jobs.

I think JMAN, you have to realize that your 2.5 miles underground, and I think, no matter how you shake it or bake it, 2.5 miles down in the ground, will have risk forever!!! Of course now, there are many that said that when a local union left, safety became less of a focus. This is what locals said

Just a NEWPORT family history lesson, My family name is well known in Northeastern PA for Coal Mining work from the turn of the century, both in Railroad Police force, and My grand father was a coal mine boss in Ashley PA at the age of 10 around year 1910. Coal mining is mostly finsihed in this part of the country, but father worked in the coal mines prior to entering the draft for WWII. He only worked for about 3 years, but at a young age as well.

Thank God he left and developed a successful life in Washington DC, and the rest is history. My father was actually a PA state Golden Gloves Champion lightweight. Coal Mining and Boxing!!! and drinking NORTHEASTERN PA......that is all you do....and eat!!!

Hey Journey, stop worrying about if miners get paid enough

Werent you supposed to start some business cleaning surfaces or something that involved dangerous chemicals? You know, the kind we need to keep Dante from sniffing all the time. You were going to hire me for big money and all that good sort of thing.

You have reniged on me :sad3:

I remember reading years ago that mining as an occupation is responsible for more deaths annually than any other occupation. Surprisingly, farming is 2nd.
