Ot: Picking Games Is The Easy Part

I've been handicapping for around 3 or 4 years now and I am good at picking games. I find myself able to read lines well and can gauge different teams let downs/when they are ready, etc....

However, i've been hovering around the break even point (up a bit this year) and it has nothing to do with winning percentage. I'm very indisciplined and really need to exercise patience. I'm becoming better and better but was wondering if there are books about sports gambling that may have helped other people in my position that they can recommend.

I'm an avid reader and would like to read them anyways....

Take a look at The Gambers Bookstore (online). There are dozens of very good reads about handicapping and most contain chapters about money management and discipline. The books are broken down by sport. Click on to the catalog index and then on to the sport you are interested in. For example in baseball I would recommend Betting the Bases by Mike Lee. All the books are available by mail online.

1. Flat bet (or close to it); and
2. Shop for the best line/reduced juice

If you have a strong winning % and do those two things then I'm not sure how you can lose.

Welcome to the world of sports betting. You have learned the secret of thousands who have come before you.

Books won't help you much, I have sadly seen few that address it much more than stating, "to win you must have discipline and patience". Since you know the problem, why not focus on your weaknesses and forget about working on your strengths for awhile?

Start off with always reminding yourself why you are betting. If you are betting for fun, then don't expect profits. If you are betting to win, don't expect a lot of fun.
