First off, I want to congratulate Bruce Sutter on his election, he is more than deserving. I am a Red Sox fan, so call me a homer. Pure and simple, Jim Rice belongs in the Hall of Fame.

Batted over .300 7 times
More than 100 RBI 8 times
Top 5 in MVP 6 times

Career numbers
2,452 hits
373 2B
382 HR
1,451 RBI
.298 Ave

In a time when people care about steroids and such, Jim Rice did all this clean. These numbers were huge for the time he played in. Guys did not hit 50 HRs at that time. The pitching was better, the ball was different (not wound as tight) and the league was not watered down. Jim Rice was a feared hitter. He wasnt a Dave Kingman who hit a HR or struck out. Jim Rice was a hitter with power. He deserves to be in the Hall. Writers need to get their head out of their a$$ and stop blackballing him because he was a jerk to the media.

Thank you for the opportunity to rant.

Bruce Sutter should not have gotten in. Beneficiary of era where saves are overvalued as a stat.
Had he been on ballot next year, he would have gotten like 25% of votes.

GD-
I have no problem with Bruce Sutter. I remember he was always one of the first releivers taken when we had Strato-matic drafts

In todays game guys with Rice's numbers are a dime a dozen.

My point exactly, Jim Rice did not play in todays game. There was no steroids. The ball didnt jump off the bat like it does now. There werent as many relievers that pitched gopher balls. His numbers for his era are nothing short of dominating.

Ridiculous that Rice can't get in...the inflated numbers in todays game hurt these players who hit 35-40 Hrs regularly.

Lee Smith di as much as he possibly could have, relievers just don't get the recognition...Sutter didn't pitch in the era where saves were as frequent as they are now either, he would pitch more than an inning many times....Closers were actually called upon in jams back then , not like now.

thats why u gotta appreciate those closers today that make the 2 inning saves, like Lidge, Gagne occassionally, maybe 1-2 others...i mean heaven forbid the coach even puts a guy in with 2 outs in the 8th anymore.

Junior Stephens & Joe Wood have far more credentials than Jim Rice and neither gets a sniff!
