January 10, 2006

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Hall of Famer Eddie Murray was hired Tuesday as the hitting coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Other newcomers who will work on first-year manager Grady Little's staff are pitching coach Rick Honeycutt, first base coach Mariano Duncan, third base coach Rich Donnelly, bench coach Dave Jauss and bullpen coach Dan Warthen.

In addition, Manny Mota will return for his 27th season as a Dodgers coach, and Rob Flippo will be back for his fifth season as the team's bullpen catcher.

Murray, Honeycutt, Duncan and Mota all played for the Dodgers.

The 49-year-old Murray, inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2003, hit .287 with 504 homers and 1,917 RBIs in 21 seasons.

A switch hitter who spent most of his career with the Baltimore Orioles, Murray played for the Dodgers from 1989-91 and again in 1997 before retiring. He spent the last four seasons as the hitting coach for the Cleveland Indians, and was a coach for the Orioles from 1998-2001.

The 51-year-old Honeycutt also had a 21-year career including five with the Dodgers, from 1983-87. A left-handed pitcher, he appeared in 797 games, 33rd-highest total in history.

Honeycutt spent the last four seasons as the Dodgers minor league pitching coordinator.

The 42-year-old Duncan played for the Dodgers from 1985-87 and again in 1989. He spent last season as a coach at Triple-A Las Vegas.

The 59-year-old Donnelly enters his 25th season as a big league coach. He was the third base coach for the Milwaukee Brewers the past three seasons.

The 48-year-old Jauss was a major league advance scout for the Boston Red Sox the past three seasons. He also worked as minor league field coordinator for the Red Sox organization in 2000-01 and director of player development for the team in 2002. Little managed the Red Sox in 2002-03.

The 53-year-old Warthen was the pitching coach for the San Diego Padres in 1996-97 and the Detroit Tigers from 1999-2002.
