Actually, if it was ruled a touchback, it would have worked out beautifully for New England, as they were out of downs anyway and would have had to kick a FG. That would have made it 10-9. With the touchback, it still would have been 10-6, yet New England would have started first and 10 with a chance to drive for the go-ahead score. And with the way they were moving the ball, an argument could be made that Champ's INT could have actually helped New England if it was ruled a touchback.
Seems clear that Champ was letting his guard down too early. When you are exhausted, I can see stumbling into the endzone at 80-90% of normal speed, but it generally won't hit you out of nowhere and slow you to a crawl. He let the ball down and was going to walk in if he hadn't been hammered
