I got a dvr about a year ago, and rarely used it...my friends and family, and even some ppl here at therx, talk about great television programs on prime time. Because i am an avid sports fanatic, and gambler, i simply have no time for prime time t.v. Until now...lol. I started recording shows during the 8-10 pm slots during the week, and boy, have i been missing some good shows...so I catch the shows on dvr when sports are over of if I am getting blown out of a particular game...if you dont have one, i just wanted to say its worth the money...have my dvr set for tomorrow night to catch the first American Idol of the new season...I have never seen one episode of that show and hear sooooo many good things about it, how funny it is etc...

just some friendly advise!!

Recording shows is great. Skipping commercials when you watch the shows later is the best reason to own a PVR in my view.

ohhh, hell yes, forgot to mention that, fast forwarding through commercials is awesome, makes a 60 min show about 45 mins...

one other thing, i live in a Comcast area, so i rent the "dvr", i thinks its 10$ a month...not sure what a "pvr" is, would guess its a peice of equipment you can buy?...

Yup .. after computers and the internet, this is the best.

Completely agree. Life has completely changed...I record everything and don't have to stress about missing shows or changing my schedule and whatnot.

If you don't have one, you need to get one NOW. Most all cable providers are now providing 'em for $10 per month. It is well worth it.

I remember when cell phones first came out, I was so set against not getting one, until "everyone" had one...I finally got one and wanted to kick myself for being so stingy...same rule applies here my friends, dvr is the way to go!!

I currently have standard cable. Do you have to have digital cable or satellite in order to use a DVR?

Does anyone know if a DVR can support multiple monitors for simultaneous viewing? Or would having multiple monitors be independent of a DVR?

thanks,
Presto

I just use a DVD recorder with a hard drive I picked up at Walmart for $150. Doesn't have the bells and whistles of TIVO, but works well for me since I travel a lot and can take taped shows on RW discs and reuse them when I am done.

I record all the college hoops games and watch them...it's great...don't have to be a slave to the TV at all...a great handicapping tool...

PVR usually refers to a portable DVR. I have the Archos AV560 and think it's great.. can record TV or download shows and watch on trains, flights etc..

The DVR (or Tivo) totally changes the way you watch tv. People who don't have one don't understand. People who do have one can't go without it.

The times I've had to fix my Tivo, it totally sucks to watch tv.

Being able to pause live tv to do someone else and come back to pick up where you left off is my favorite part.
