It all turned out okay for the Colts when Manning waived at the punting unit to get back off the field, in turn telling coach Dungy he was the one making this decision.

How many players could get away with this, Dungy being mild mannered let this go, could you imagine Mike Ditka or Bill Cowher sending in the punt team and having their QB say 'umm no thanks coach, were going for it inside our own 35 yard line' .

Peyton Manning had a day that will take a long time to overcome IMO.

Not just Manning J-man, but the entire Colts organization. They have coughed up another huge fur ball when it mattered most. This year was going to be different, this year all the pieces were in place. This year there were no more excuses. Well, they choked again when it really mattered, this loss will be very hard for the organization to overcome. I will be surprised if they make any noise next year.

No one will even remember this team a few years from now they will be just another team that took a shot at going undefeated ... What will be remembered though is Manning, showing up his coach and his O-line.

I think they will be right there again next year regardless of this year. It took Elway a many tries before he got it done and many others that was top QB's never make it. Pittsburgh was the better team and they won. The Colts had the better record but wasn't the better team.

Favre could waive off the punt team, maybe McNabb.

Favre could give away entire games and get away with it...just go back and watch this entire past season.

Dungy said in an interview, when asked about Peyton waving off the punt team that the decision was already made to go for it. Dungy was able to inform Manning they were going for it through the communication system in Manning's helmet. The punt team didn't know, which was why Manning waived them back. I can buy that. Manning didn't make the choice on his own against the coach's wishes.

Dungy said he made the go for it call in the post game interview on CBS and was asked did Peyton make the call he said NO.

That Manning was waiving them off since he knew Dungy had made the call to go for it.

And special teams did not knowDungy had made the call so Peyton waived them off the field

Peyton sure is an easy target. Did not play well is about the only thing he did wrong. For a QB who for the last few years has been sacked slightly less than once per game to eat it 5 times and get nailed a couple others, yes there was protection issues.

RR, yes there were. But there were also many times he had time and just flat out missed. A class qb, would not say a word in that spot, especially when he did not have the best of games. He aslo threw in coverage a # of times.

He also deserves blames for the sacks and the hits.

Funny one time he beat a blitz with a quick pass to the TE for a nice game and announcers gave him credit for it.

What about the other blitzes, he is so "cerebral" how did he continue to miss them?

Well I read in the USA Today (in the sports tv weekend review section page 2) that Dungy didn't want to punt in that situation either.

Also on Sunday, CBS' Dan Dierdorf said Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning had waved off the punting unit to go for it on a fourth down, overruling coach Tony Dungy; Dungy said on CBS later he hadn't wanted to punt.
