As a Green Bay Packer fan, I am afraid this is one of the BIGGEST MISTAKES the team has made in a long time. It would be acceptable to retain Bates as a coordinator and get another head coach......but that needed to be determined. If not...he had to become the next head coach. Green Bay's MVP last year....HANDS DOWN, was Jim Bates. He was the one bright spot on Green Bay's season. I am absolutely sickened that he is not properly rewarded for that. From being around the local media day in and day out, Jim Bates seems to be a hard working, knowledgeable, intelligent, ULTRA-enthusiastic leader that does not take any shit. He really did not get the attention and respect that he deserved for taking an ABSOLUTELY terrible Green Bay defense.....getting rid of some of the lazy ass superstars, and then helping them to outperform ALL EXPECTATIONS. That was impressive.

I think it was a mistake to pass him over for the HEAD COACHING POSITION.....and now it is a horrible to see him go.

I hope Jim Bates gets a head coaching position....and I hope he wins a Super Bowl.

Unfortunately that will not be with the Packers. Ted Thompson can lick my ass.

can not blame the guy for leaving, passed up as Head Coach after what he did with that rag tag defense, he was a proven commodity and was passed up for some "no name" Favre licking rookie coach !

My feelings exactly. The Packer defense improved greatly throughout the season and for Bates to be overlooked is truely a mistake. Ted Thompson should be the next one out at Green Bay.

first game of year against Lions the Pack played a very aggressive, attack style defense with their corners right up in wr faces. They talked about it all week in Detroit on sports radio on how GB dee cordinator was a guy Detroit wished it had. Hope he comes to Detroit, liked his style
