I am interested in purchasing a HDTV but need a little help. I don't know much about them. I watched the playoffs in HDTV and was impressed. Do I just purchase an HDTV or do I need an adapter in order to view shows in high definition? What are some good websites to use in order to purchase one? I am currently an Adelphia digital cable subscriber. Any other help would be appreciated. Thanks.

All I did was buy an HD TV and then trade in my regular cable box for a digital HD cable box. It cost me 2.95 more a month for the new box.

Do not buy a plasma. Buy either a DLP or LCD. If you have cable your cable company will probably sell or rent to you an HD receiver. I would suggest DirecTV because that is the only way you can get the NFL ticket. I don't know how much you want to spend. I bought a Samsung 56" DLP from Circuit City. If you go to their web site you will find all kinds of reviews from customers that have purchased each specific tv. I think the best thing to do is go to Circuit City, Best But , or whatever TV store you want and just look at the televisions and see what you like. I would also suggest buying a descent surround sound system. It is awsome for movies.

This is the deal:

HD ready = you need to buy a box (but you can get one for free from DirecTV)

HD tuner = you don't need to buy a box

My advice is the same as fightclubs - buy a tube.

This isn't always true. Newer TVs have something that stretches the screen intelligently. It looks nothing like what it used to. And newer plasmas look quite good, but have to make sure they are HDTV, not EDTV. I got a Sharp LCD and am marvelling at hockey in HD, its breathtaking, really reminds me of being in the Shark Tank.

Getting my signal through cable box. If you don't want to go this route, you can put up an old-fashioned antenna as long as it has an HD tuner, but have to use a good one and use good cables or it won't be much of an improvement.
