One of the fellow posters here once said to me when I was betting the NFL "What makes you think you know more about the most handicapped sport in the world, why do you think you will win?" I thought about and realizied he was sort of right. Now I do beleive that I "deserve" to win(in NFL) because I put together my own numbers and devise my own pointspread from them. I feel I find some underrated and overrated teams with these #'s but in other sports I agree with his statment. Why do you, the bettor, beleive you know more than the rest of the public and will come out ahead? Is it knowledge of sport, a unique system you created, expierence, thorough record keeping, money management, etc... Everyone bets to win money, what makes you feel that you will beat this game (gambling)? What seperates you from the other gamblers? I'll chime in a little later on something I feel that I sorely lacked in the past, that I have improved upon to make me better gambler and put me closer to hopefully being a "winning player"

Why?

1. Harder working
2. More disciplined and "grinder" orientated
3. Understand the "realities" of sports wagering
4. Having more "outs"
5. Having no "greed"

Thanks Fish, really good answers. After I read my post, I'm not sure it came out exactly like I wanted to. I'm really interested in learning from other people. I know you can't just pick up a newspaper and pick games and expect to come win.

I don't know if I have an edge, but I have changed the way I wager and it has helped me immensely. Here is how:

1. Many outs, so I can get the best lines.
2. I do not chase losses (or blow my winnings) on Sunday or Monday night
3. I don't HAVE TO play a TV game
4. I don't believe in LOCKS
5. I manage my money better and don't go overboard

Most of my problems did NOT stem from picking winners. It stemmed from not being a grinder, doubling up, needing action, making super sized wagers and not VALUING my money.
