Hempstead, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Jets have scheduled a Tuesday afternoon press conference to introduce Eric Mangini as their new head coach.
The conference will be held by Jets executive vice president/general manager Terry Bradway at 4:00 p.m. (et) in Weeb Ewbank Hall on the campus of Hofstra University
.
Mangini, 34, was the defensive coordinator for the New England Patriots in 2005 and captured five division titles and three Super Bowl rings in his six years with the club.
New York interviewed Mangini on Sunday in Foxborough, MA, one day after the Patriots lost to the Denver Broncos 27-13. The Jets would not have been allowed to make a contract offer until New England was eliminated from the playoffs.
Mangini will replace Herman Edwards, who left the Jets abruptly to take the vacant Kansas City Chiefs head coaching position. Edwards guided the team to the playoffs in three of his five seasons.
