As far as TOTAL PASSING YDS allowed during the regular season, only SF, KC, and NE gave up more yards.

Which team gave up the fewest yards through the air?

The lowly GB PACKERS.

It should be noted however that only five teams had more interceptions than the Broncos total of TWENTY, due in large part to one Champ Bailey.

That is an overrated stat, teams that get big leads will generally give up more yards through the air.

Maybe the 29th ranked Passing D, but look at the QB's they face in their division. Also, they have many teams beaten early, therefore passing a lot of the game. I wouldn't put much into their low pass D ranking.

Misleading. They had the most attempts against them out of every team in the league 613.

Tons of meaningless, prevent D type yards also.

Denver #3 scoring D allowing 15.9 ppg......Pitty right behind at 16.4

These teams are so evenly matched it's sick.

Also, opposing QB's had only a 56.1% completion percentage vs the Broncos defense.............that being the 3rd best in the NFL in that category defensively.

Denver gave up 258 points on defense, only TWO NFL teams allowed less, Indy and Chicago, that is more important, by far.

It is true and this is why

LAST in the NFL in QB SACKS!!

they are horrible against the pass and have no pass rush, that is why they have to risk and blitz on 5 of 6 plays.

fraud team.

Neither of these teams will be able to run the ball consistantly. the Steelers are a pure Over team because of their Rep on "D". I like Over in the game and look for both teams to pass to set up the run.

If the officiating is anywhere near what it was against Pats, Pitt can't beat them no matter the stats are.

I'm not going to argue if they are a fraud or not......but if you believe everything you typed above that statement, you cleary haven't seen this team play much......if at all.

Their is a reason Denver went from 20 takeaways LY to 36 this year (with basically the same LB's and DB's).

Same reason they had that #3 completion % against that Fish posted above.

They pressure the QB incredibly well. They do blitz their fair share, but even when they only bring four.....they get all the pressure they need.

That sack stat is utterly meaningless. I don't care if my Pitchers get strikeouts or not.......just so long as they get the OUTS

There have been some great defensive teams that did not sack the QB particularly well, PPG allowed and points scored to points against, Denver will be tough to beat here, and this is Pittsburgh's 3rd straight road playoff game....this is a very intriguing matchup. We should be in for 2 very competitive championship games.

Some statistics regarding the Denver pass defense:

Completion Percentage: 56.1%
Yards Per Attempt: 6.4
Touchdowns Allowed: 21
Touchdown Percentage: 3.2%
Interceptions: 22
Interception Percentage: 3.4%
Overall Opponent QBR: 72.3

Additional overall defensive stats:

Rushing Yards Per Carry: 4.0
Rushing Touchdowns Allowed: 10
Sacks: 27

Team rankings are presented many different ways but the numbers are what they are and the opposition can influence the numbers. Such as garbage yards when the game is already in hand and the opponent is throwing to catch up and the defense is playing soft. Twenty-ninth ranked. I don't think so.

Hard for this one to not be Dante. These teams are mirror images of each other IMO.

Still have to lean to Denver though based on the intangibles.

Extra day, crowd, altitude, less travel, coaching record in CCG's, and post Indy let down.

(some would say Denver fits the let down category as well after knocking off the champs...but they've never really had a problem with NE so I don't think it fits)

Great thread. Just goes to show how horribly misleading some simple rankings #'s can be.
