I just saw Mike Vanderjagt on Lettermann. I'm not a huge fan of his but I have to give him props for going on the show. You could see he was still very upset about missing that kick. I have a lot more respect for him than I do for Payton Manning.

Man.....I don't see how anyone could do that so soon. I'd have nightmares about that kick for at least a year.

At least Norwood's miss was in the right area code. Vanderjagt should go into isolation.

he still pisses me off...right when the announcer said the most accurate kicker of all time, I knew he was going to miss...

Again, this was a 46 yarder from the left hash mark and to TIE the game only.

People are talking like this was a gimmee.

Peyton is actually right, the pass protection SUCKED the entire game.

The pass protection was 100x more to blame than the kick.

All have to say is if you can do better fuckin job..................then get your ass down to camp and try out for the team. 46 yards is no chip shot.

GL at tryouts....................Rugby :toast:

I can miss 46 yarders by at least 50 feet under pressure too, but for substantially less money.

Brilliant logic. Clearly, nobody is entitled to an opinion about sports unless they can outperform the athlete they're criticising.

that's his job though, on turf, that kick is the equivalent to about 40-41 yards on grass, 75+% of the time he makes it, he clearly choked.

It will be interesting to see how long the Colts suffer the hangover from the miss. The last time we saw the Vikings that close to a Super Bowl, was when Gary Anderson missed his only kick of the season a few years back. And the last close Super Bowl loss for the Bills was against the Giants with the Norwood miss. Will the same happen to Indy? You would think not, but next season the team will be a year older, they may lose some players through free agency and the other teams in their division will probably be better. Plus the memory of everyone talking about possibly being undefeated and the best team in history, and then going out at home in their first playoff game against a team they beat easily during the regular season, it will be tough to bounce back.

ALthough he missed it badly, I would imagine the NFL average for a kick between 45 and 50 yards is around 50 %. Anybody know the real #?

Maybe, but Vanderjack in the dome from that same range is over 90% career I believe.

I just like how everyone is giving this guy shit for missing a 46 yarder. He's the most accurate kicker ever and has hit numerous big kicks, but he misses 1 and everyone is all over him. Yet nobody thinks of pounding on Manning, Dungy, the defense, or the offensive line as much as they are the kicker. He played in 3 plays the entire game. Maybe if manning could call out protections, the line could block, Dungy didn't get outcoached by a mile, and the defense could stop Pit, they wouldn't have been in that position at the end of the game. Maybe if they played close to decent intsed of absolutly horrible they could kneel on the ball insted of trying a 46 yarder at the end of the game.

That settles it...It's WED/DAY

Obviously it was a complete team loss for the Colts. However, this was not a just wide right or left kick. He basically completely choked. The kick was one of the worst attempts I have seen--well maybe only the 49ers and Bears kick when the wind took it on a near same course as Vanderjagts. He had little if any pass rush, the snap was good, the hold was good, the kick was a choke. No Vanderjagt is not the only reason they lost. This was a team loss but a big time choke on the kick.

MIKE VANDERJAGT on Letterman recap from Letterman site

He's the most accurate kicker in NFL history. This year, his field goal percentage was 92%, making 23 in 25 attempts. He was 7 for 8 from outside 40 yards. He's the real deal. please welcome
Mike Vanderjaght

Mike says he feels if the attempt is inside 53 yards, he should make it. Why did he miss the 46-yarder last week? Mike believes that all the Steeler fans on the left side of the stadium blew at the same time. Mike's miss was wide right.

Mike says he was the most surprised guy in the stadium when he looked up to see that he missed. He hit it right; it felt right, it sounded right. It went way right.

During the game when the Colts were down 21-3, Mike did some quick math in his head and figured for the Colts to tie it would take two touchdowns, a two-point conversion, and a field goal.

He thought it would eventually come down to him. When the Colts responded with two touchdowns and a two-point conversion, the score stood at 21-18. Yes, it would come down to Mike.

Mike says whenever the offense crosses the 50-yard line, he starts to prep for a possible field goal. When the Colts defense is on the field, he turns into a fan just like anyone else. He sits and enjoys the game. When the Colts unexpectedly got the ball back late in the game, the offense promised him they would get him close enough for a field goal.

The Colts eventually got to the 28 yard line. The offense lived up to their end of the bargain. 28 yard line, plus 10 yards for the end zone, plus 8 yards for the snap back to the holder, made it a 46-yard field goal attempt. And you know the rest.

And now to make it all right again. Dave and Mike head outside to 53rd Street to kick the field goal that wasn't last Sunday.

Dave and Mike go outside during the commercial break. With them is the Indianapolis Colts long snapper, Justin Snow, and the holder Hunter Smith.
Playing the part of Hunter Smith tonight will be Dave Letterman.

It's time for the kick. Dave points to the spot where he will place the ball. He receives the snap from Justin Snow. He places it down, spinning the laces out towards the target. Vanderjagt approaches and kicks. It is high enough! It is long enough! It is . . . . .. GOOD! GOOD! GOOD!
