I allways thought it would be easy to run a sportsbook. Seeing BCN this may not be the case. Me and a buddy had a site (JBET.com) we owned, had some meetings with operators but we didn't trust them.
I figured every small town has a bookie that makes a killing, how hard could it be wouldn't take much to make some money. And it would be fun as well. Maybe the fierce competition has caught up to some books and now 10 years into this we now have big trusted names, so if your not a big name it has now gotten tougher to make it than in the past oddly.
Tough for start-ups they have to offer 100 for 100 deals just to get people in the door, and the retention rate cannot be too high. Books need to differentiate to get customers, varity of bets, better lines, and bets no one else offers (totals and halves for games not on TV etc.) And maybe a little extra Customer Service. Lots and lots and lots of untapped market out there though, new books looking to get ahead need to find a way to tap it.
