I have a friend that always buys points no matter what the game is, the line is, or the sport.

Hes always buying 2 points and getting the line at -150 or -155. EVERY GAME! I try to explain that hes going to lose money if he lays 150 every time for 2 points in a basketball game

Im trying to tell him that its not a good idea to do, especially in the long run. am I wrong about this.

Please type why he shouldnt do this and maybe explain a little better than what i have. and I will show im this thread.

Thanks

Well i'm no math wizard, but i would think the easiest way to understand it would be, on an average bet of -110, and he is paying an extra -40 for his odds, then he needs to see how many times making that "buy" turns a loser into a winner.....so i would think easy math would say, if it doesnt turn the wager into a winner at least 4 out of 11 times, then he is losing out....

There is probably something there that i am not seeing, and i am off on my math, but that seems right to me......

Buying points is just another way to blow your money. Now if buying on or off certain numbers can be worth it, but very seldom.

I don't do it except on rare occasions. I might if I took a lead looking for a middle that didn't develop, say lead with -7.5 ( NBA) hoping to buy back at +9.5 or so, then line is -7, but I need some back, I'd buy a half to +7.5 instead of having -7.5/ +7.

I prefer getting the half free, and wouldn't buy 2 points, but I'd buy 6 or more of them at 10 cents per half point, if I could. The points become worth much more after about 3 full points.

Actually, for basketball, it's not quite as bad as you would think at first glance, especially across certain pointspread ranges. I still wouldn't do it though. Now if they let you buy 4 points, still for 10 cents per half (-110 to -190) then we're talkin'...

I do it in basketball on a number but not off. NCAA only, low total, between 2 and 7. This kind of criteria only. Horizon, Big West, Sunbelt, WAC confrence tourney semis or finals pretty stupid not buy 2.5 to 2 or lay 141 ml instead of 3.

I would not buy a reg season nba game no.

i do it at Pinny NBA when they have moved the money line near tip off due to action they have taken and want some buyback on the other side. That changes the prices on the other points as well.

Then you can buy a 1/2 point basically for free or close to it and really only pay 1 or 2 cents.

I thing the books have done the math. Its to their advantage over the long haul. They wouldn't offer a prop bet unless they could make money on it.

If your playing a game and feel the need to buy a half or a whole point....your probably on the wrong game.

Just an opinion.

I wonder if any locals allow that, must be some.

I will NOT lay 7 1/2 or take + 61/2 in a college football game, EVER! I ALWAYS buy the 1/2 point. Also make that in NFL too. :103631605 LT
