Ask for the line on such and such a game. But ask for the side yout DO NOT WANT. Just to insure they give you a good line. As silly as it seems I do this at times. If want the Pistons for example against the Bulls I'll ask for the line on the Bulls game and then tell them I want the Pistons for X amount.

I ask for the line in a neutral manner like "what's the line on the Illinois/Wisconsin game" or call out the rotation numbers like "what's the line on 781/782".

5teamer, I understand where you are coming from and its really no big deal but if you think youre going to get a higher line on the team you ask for (or lower if its the dog) you are going to be wrong 99.9% of the time. It would take a REALLY REALLY REALLY shitty book to do something like that to you. Locals are another a story, I do not know in that instance but with offshore books, youre safe asking for whatever side, trust me on that one :)

I have done this countless times...and will switch it around from time to time.
My biggest superstition is when I call and ask for a game line and they put me on hold, once they come back on the line I will ask for the opposite of what I wanted and play that line.

Since I have been using my phone to place wagers over the internet I have not had to do this yet....

You just name sport, NBA, Game rotation numbers 509/510. Dallas/Chicago. Some people prefer naming chalk first. The clerk just reads the screen, they do not have a secret file on every player to guess which line to throw out.

Best Wishes... OF :nopityA:

Today's clerks are locked into a line by their computer and can't read you anything else. Players chasing steam that get put on hold so a linesmanger can qoute a price are a different story. Most likely it will not matter what side you ask for, the book will know the steam side and shade it accordingly.

I always just say what the number on game such and such, they have No clue what you are looking for anyway. Besides you are speaking to a clerk that is Locked into the screen. Now supervisors that another story!!!

I have never done that, but in one case with my local, I have done this:

A few years ago, I called in to take Giants +5 and was quoted Giants +3 because he knew I was high on the Giants. I took Dallas -3 for 200 times just because I wanted to see him sweat. I went back online and took the Giants +5 and lost on vig what I would have wagered on the game, but sometimes its worth it with locals. He never did that to me again.

As for ONLINE, I don't think it matters.

I used to bet with a local who before giving me the line on the game I wanted would ask who I like. :nohead: I'm sure glad I don't have to deal with these jokers anymore with the coming of Offshore sportsbooks.

That was commonplace. That was their version of "customer service".

Once, I talked about liking Team A on Thursday, and when I got the number on Sunday, I took Team B. My local acted like his feelings were hurt because I had tried to trick him ... he went on a 5 minute speech about how we were buddies, he always spoke to me like a friend, this showed complete distrust and so on.

Todays clerks on the internet do not care who you are betting. And they
also wouldn't know steam or anything of the sort. All they want to do is get paid at the end of the week. Now back in the dinosaur days when I was a clerk, we had a field day with our customers. When Chuck came in with his BB
plays, we had customers laying 4 and 5 points worse on the totals, not to mention 2 and 3 points on the side. Back then we had a license to steal.I highly doubt any sportsbook continues this practice. Because of the internet
more players are sharper and kind of know what they are doing...LOL!!!!!
