"Overall it was a well-officiated game. There's no question about it."

That's right up there with "Brownie, you're doin' a heckuva job" and "No one could have anticipated that the levees would breach".

what else is he gonna say? if he admits it, the party's over. its like what all the stock brokers were saying in 2001..."its just a short term correction, the stocks will come back...i'd be buying more at these prices...can i put you down for 500 more shares of AOL?"

Well, he could have at least been a bit more tempered about it. To say it was WELL-OFFICIATED is just flat out insulting to every viewer's intelligence. He could have at least said something like: "Some honest mistakes might have been made, but mistakes and judgments have always been a part of the game and always will. However, we are always trying improve the officiating to make our product a better one, and in that regard we will review this game, as we do all games, to take any steps that might be necessary to make our product better".

Now, how hard was that Mr. Aiello, you spineless gutless moronic windbag?

There, I feel better. :pope:

Personally, I dont feel this way, but many have suggested this SB set the NFL back 15 years.

Thoughts?

BOXING once the a top sport in this country, FRIDAY night was fight night throughout the whole country, and it has gone the way of the WWF. It's barely a sport anymore.

A MAJOR SETBACK and the NFL better clean up it's act!!!!

Not to mention NHL, Bases and baskets have had set-backs lately. I may be done gambling on SB's after this March Madness is #1 in my book, followed by college BOWL season.

I think this game will force the league to make changes...it won't make much difference though...anyone remember all those defensive pass interference calls they were going to be calling two years ago?

Sounds to me like the Bush White House PR Machine is now working for the NFL.

Of course it was well officiated from their viewpoint. They got exactly the result they wanted.

The guy is 100% right. Overall the game was very well officiated minus the 2 blown calls on Pittsburgh and the one blown call on Seattle.

The fact that the league has to come out and make any kind of a remark to defend their "credible" ref knob job definately shows that they know that they fucked up. They need a group of quality guys that they pay very well, and their only job is to ref professional football games. This would help a little. But it still wouldn't be perfect. You would still have the Jeremy Stevens' in the ref world. Guys' whose only purpose in life is to catch footballs for millions of dollars for half a year, and even though you practice it everyday-you still can't do it. How??? I'm convinced that refs will continue to blow games even if they are full time.

One thought that immediately came to mind, since I can only watch a few games, was whether the level of officiating had any influence on the unusually high percentage of favourites covering this year?

I do recall someone suggesting the NFL was out to screw the sharps, perhaps only partly in jest.
