He could have at least said something like: "Some honest mistakes might have been made, but mistakes and judgments have always been a part of the game and always will. However, we are always trying improve the officiating to make our product a better one, and in that regard we will review this game, as we do all games, to take any steps that might be necessary to make our product better".

The fact that the league has to come out and make any kind of a remark to defend their "credible" ref knob job definately shows that they know that they fucked up. They need a group of quality guys that they pay very well, and their only job is to ref professional football games. This would help a little. But it still wouldn't be perfect. You would still have the Jeremy Stevens' in the ref world. Guys' whose only purpose in life is to catch footballs for millions of dollars for half a year, and even though you practice it everyday-you still can't do it. How??? I'm convinced that refs will continue to blow games even if they are full time.
