Wayne Gretzky's wife cited in gambling ring

By CHRIS NEWMARKER, Associated Press Writer
February 7, 2006
EWING, N.J. (AP) --

Wayne Gretzky's wife and about a half-dozen NHL players placed bets -- but not on hockey -- with a nationwide sports gambling ring financed by Phoenix Coyotes assistant coach Rick Tocchet, authorities said Tuesday.

Gretzky, hockey's greatest player, is in his first season coaching the Coyotes and is a part-owner of the team.

Gretzky's Actress-wife Janet Jones was among those implicated, two law enforcement officials told The Associated Press, speaking on condition of anonymity because no bettors have been publicly identified.

this is going to play out bad for Gretzky, just watch... Guaranteed it will come out he bet on sports..Hopefully, it doesn't come out that he (or his wife fronting for him) made a bet on anything hockey related...

He will get tarnished by this which is ashame because ever since i was a kid i always looked up to him as pure class.. To me it won't make a difference in my thoughts of him because he likes to bet football. I wonder how the media will treat him over this? Look what they did to Rose (then again Gretzky is a much more likable guy then Rose)...

There's no mention of any of the wagering\booking being done on hockey, so that helps things.

I still think that Tocchet is probably history tomorrow when he meets with Bettman

If you here me JERSEY Officials go PHUCK yourself!!!!! They have been busting up so many operations in the past year. Why can't they start concentrating on real crime? There will be no locals left in the garden state pretty soon!!

If he wasnt betting on hockey, how much trouble can he get in?

Thats what i was thinking too...doesn't sound like he was making book, and the players made bets on basketball and football? BIG DEAL

When you have an assistant coach for a pro team being a bookmaker....oh, you're going to be in trouble all right.

Granted, it won't be NEARLY as bad as it would if they were booking pucks. That would be beyond comprehension.

Screw what happens to Tocchet and Gretzky, what about us. You watch the fuxxs in Congress and the sports leagues talk about how offshore betting had something to do with this. Instead of blaming adults for making choices most think they should be free to make, these fuxxs will say something completely stupid and full of nonsense about how we need to stop this scourge coming from offshore. Call this pure politician move Wildbill's lock of the decade!

This just had to happen in Kyl's backyard, didn't it? (Even though it has nothing to do with offshore gambling). Just another local-but a bad, bad place to have a big public gambling debacle.

Kyl is sure to say something stupid like "these guys surely got their pointstpread from an offshore sports book, so lets take care of this problem by passing my bill". It doesn't really matter where it happened, but you are right TT Kyl will be sure to jump on this one quicker now.

I guess Roenick wants to distance himself already from this, wants other outs, I saw him at the betting window at Mandalay Bay before UFC. Hmmm isn't this the same Roenick who said he wasn't going to bet again after his name came up in that tout's probe out of FLorida last year? Nice to see he's thinking of helping the Kings get out of a funk by coming to Vegas between road games,:lolBIG: :pucking:
