Like Ppeter, I also have to move because of work to one of these cities. I visited these citites for 1 day, but if anybody who lives there or knows about these cities can give me any insight, I would greatly appreciate it. I am most interested in things like quality of life, living expenses, traffic, weather, etc. I liked the Norfolk/Va beach area, but I have heard mixed things about living there. Thanks again.

minnesota winters get easier and easier. growing up here winters were tough, and long and cold, but due to global warming or whatver this warm streak is its not too bad.

nice house 4 bedroom 15 years old for $200,000 if you dont insist on living in the trendy suburbs. traffic (people complain some) but compared to other big cities its nothing. schools public not what they were for MN 20 years ago, we have slipped there. Crime in MPLS getting worse but OK out in suburb areas. St. Paul a great sister city and a bit nicer overall to live in, the TWIN CITIES are known for its fine arts as well. And tons of parks and lakes and camping and stuff. WILD and EXCEL center are amazing, Twins might move soon who knows, vikings will stay, Timberwolves nobody cares about but that makes tickets on the sreet to get in go for about 1/2 face value most nights. 8 out of 10 stars overall.

I used to work in Piitsburg (a few years back), it sucked. Dout MInny is any great shakes either.

I have vacationed in VA Beach, and it seemed like a nice area.
I have lived in Philly my whole life and would recomend it to anyone.
Great college and Pro sports, minor league sports (baseball, indoor soccer, arena football) as well. Awesome restuarants (not as many as NYC, especially ethnic offerings), and plenty of non gamling activities (concerts, shows, plays, museams). Close to the mountains for skiing, NJ beaches (I prefer OC MD and VA Beachmyself), AC casinos. If you live in the suburbs, there are fantastic public schools, and the taxes are not bad at all. RE has gone through the roof, my 4BR has increased about 80% in the last 4 years, but is tapering off now (not going down but going up slower). Awesome education (colleges) and medical facilites.

Good luck whatever you decide.

Terrific cheesesteaks to be found at either Pats or Ginos....and above average stock in the burbs as well! Without a doubt the best soft pretzels in the entire world. Great city and town to raise a family and plant your seeds. Traffic is a bitch...especially on I-95 during rush hours, as it seems they have been overhauling that route for eternity. Best doctors and hospitals in the world for both adults and children ( U of P), which by the way, saved my daughter's life about thirty years ago. Great town, but one in which usually breaks the sportsfan's hearts far too often. I still haven't fully recovered from the 1964 Phillies' collapse.

To be able to "pick a city" you must have a fairly good job. I've been in all those cities and am currently in Va. Beach. It's so-so. But I'm a country boy at heart and the traffic here is as bad as any major city that I have ever been in. Probably would pick Philly (of the places you mentioned) to live, if I wasn't allready retired and here.
