from any winners. What are your thoughts on this. A guy won $1,000 in his Super Bowl square pool and didn't offer a tip and he got pissed. Why if you run an office pool should you expect a cut of the winnings. I don't play in many so I don't really know the norm. I'll give him this thread to read when it is done, and feel free to pile on if you choose to.

Consider myself to be an above average toker for the most part............in the same situation, would buy the guy a drink and that would be about it.

Tips are for waiters.

He should get nothing.

heres a tip: if you dont want to run the office pool for fun, dont do it! that being said if i were to WIN 1st place and won a few dimes i might give the guy 10 or 20 bucks and say "here bud, lunch is on me today". but it should never be expected. i used to run a pool that had all 330 div.1 ncaa basketball teams, guys would have the teams all year and at the end we paid various winners and losers, it was fun as hell and i paid out every dime i took in. i never got tipped or expected to. just dont have time for it anymore myself.

i've run dozens of pools . anything from ncaa pools to golf contests.

never once did i expect something .

i ran them because i felt i had as good or better a chance at winning then.

If he took any % in juice from the pool he does not deserve one penny. If he returned 100% of the money to the participants throw him a nice tip for running it. He will see the guy everyday in the office and few bucks will go a lot farther than talking all the money and running.

I know guys that run 50,000 dollar survivor pools at least a 2,000 tip is mandatory in my book. That takes some work dealing with allmost 1,000 entrants every week, and chasing everyone down for a their entry fee.

different animal all together ...

most office pools are much smaller .

all this guy did was run a square pool .. how friggin hard is that . people put their initials in a square and the guy made copies to hand out..

My friend would like to defend himself. Please read below....

Hey all, I am the guy that Harrington was talking about in regards to running the pools. Let me just clarify....I do not expect a tip in ANY of the pools I run. With the guy he mentioned, all I said was that a mere thank you would be nice. THAT is all I expect....from anyone. I was involved in a 15 minute discussion with the guy that won the other $1000.00. He was telling me to take 10%, and I said I did not want anything. He went so far as to tell me that he would send me a check back if I didn't. He told me to take $100.... when I sent his winnings, I sent it all but $25.00.

Let me also say...I used to take a free $25.00 square every year, just for this reason. This way I could tell those that offered, "no thanks, I played a free square, has the same chance as you". BUT......MR. Harrington always made a big deal about that, so I stopped.

This all started because a few years back, someone that works with my neice won. They "tipped" her for asking, and nothing for me. All I said was that that was kinda jive for my neice to take that, and once again Mr. Harrington blew it all out of proportion.

That is all I have for you right now. I am awaiting activation on my account, so the next post from me will be from PunisherSport.

Now you see what was REALLY said.

Signed,
The Pool Guy:modemman:

the guy that runs a pool at my work takes his 10% right off the top....$100 square x 100 squares= $10,000.......he pays $2000 a quarter and $250 for the reverse.

I run ALL my pools (baseball, march madness, suicide, 29 club, fantasy football reg season and playoffs, NASCAR) for fun. People enjoy playing them, and I enjoy running them...nothing more. I have actually had people that won a measly $50.00 offering me a tip, and quickly refused it. It's not about that, it's just knowing people appreciate me doing it over the course of all the seasons. I don't need monetary thanks, never did...
