as a handicapper? In other words, did it change the way you handicapped a particular sport? For me the answer was a resounding YES! On October 10, 1981 #3 ranked Texas hosted #10 Oklahoma. Texas beat Oklahoma 34-14. The following week #1 ranked Texas traveled to unranked Arkansas as a 7 point favorite.
When I saw that Texas was ONLY a 7 point favorite, I thought I had found the key to the vault and the Brinks truck to bring me ALL the money. I went and borrowed money to place on Texas. When all was said and done I had $2750 to win $2500. Heck, I didn't even make close to that amount in a month. Losing NEVER entered my mind at all.
As you can guess, The Tasmanian Devils from Arkansas Crushed Texas 42-11
It took a long time to pay off the money I had borrowed and to get my mind right. I changed from a primarily favorite player to a dog player. I learned to factor in letdowns, whether it be after a win or a loss. Especially if letdown has you on the road. Also, I learned there is NO SUCH THING AS A LOCK! A lession for newbies (and the rest of us) is to become proficient in looking for look a heads, letdowns, sandwich games, and revenge games or any extraordinary situations that may be pertinent. Money Management is a crucial component to be a winner as Illinis thread demonstrated. As my example so clearly showed it was a killer. It seems lessons learned the hard way are the ones that stick with you as long as you live. Maybe I ought to have a PhD after my name. I have surely paid enough for it. Always be vigilant and take nothing for granted. Sorry for the War and Peace but I have wanted to share this experience so maybe someone else can learn from it. I LOVE The RX! LT

Great points, and Coach, you know Frank Broyles and Arkansas will always cough up a nut to beat old SWC rival Texas in any sport(re: Ark outright in Austin in '03, then follow-up wirejob cover/shoulda-coulda-woulda at home year later)..Napolean Complex!

Coach, looking forward to meeting you at this year's Bash.

How is Orlando Larry doing nowadays?..do you know if and when FM is getting out this year?

Maybe not 1 bet but a series of bets. I lived in Tempe, AZ so I had a chance to watch all of the Suns games. I noticed that the totals were consistently at 120 pts or so for the 2nd halfs last year yet the line was at 107-110. Needless to say I bet the over on a lot of them but I eventually was able to notice sometimes when they would go under like when Steve Nash was out injured.

I went 31-16 last year for Suns 2nd-half totals and I'm at 26-13 this year.

Just wanted to add one more. While watching the Texas/Rice football game in the fall of 2003 Texas got up big by half. I bet on the over for the 2nd half since Texas was rolling. It turned out that Rice ended up winning the 2nd half and the half went way under.

Same thing happened in 2004 and 2005 but those times I was ready and bet Rice and the under. Easy money. Watch for it this fall.

1992 NCAA basketball tournament. I was a small bettor at the time. $50-$200 a game. I hit like 15 out of 17 games in the first rounds of the tournament. Ohio State with Jimmy Jackson was playing Michigan with the Fab Five freshmen. If I remember right, I believe Ohio State was a 2 point favorite. I thought it was a cinch. I put everything I was ahead for the tourney on Ohio State. Game went into overtime, Michigan wins the game, and my one run of all-time in basketball was negated by one word- GREED.

I learn many times over you cant fade refs. And refs get involved when the game is SOLD OUT. Right side becomes wrong side, several case in points.

Iowa State vs Michigan State 2000 tourney
UTah State at Cal Irvine 2001
Portland vs Lakers Game 7 2000
Sac vs Lakers game 7 2002
Padres v Yanks Game 1 1998

We live in a YES MAN society. becasue of this you dont bet saleouts if your team isnt the POPULAR ONE. WORLD IS A YES MAN SOCIETY, THE WORLD WILL BE DESTROYED. AND SOON.

Rail,

Portland and Sacto's Game 7 Hosejobs by NBA and Refs in 2000 and 2002 for Phil, Shaq, and Kobe Tv Ratings Finals, are the #1 and #2 reasons why ever since I've only watched NBA Playoffs/No Regular Season..even it is hard to watch..:"the time they supposedly give a cr@p and effort"..still rigged and contains too much BS.

Horseshoe, It will be my pleasure to finally meet you. We MUST share a meal together and talk OLD times. Revenge and Hate is a good thing in capping college football. I am not sure who Orlando Larry is. As for Frank M, it has been around 20 years since I last talked to him. If Frank gets out in time , tell him to come to the Bash. I just read a funny story about a rumor that a sports book owed Gary Austin 30k. The rumor was that the sports book owner found out Austin owed many people(I was owed appx 10k) when the BS happened to his book. The SB owner paid 50 cents on the dollar for old tickets from Austins defunct book and shipped him 30 k worth in payment. The rumor was Austin was hot enough to F--K! I would like to run into Mr Austin myself. Really looking forwart to seeing you, LT:party:

couldn't agree more, I have basically eliminated the NBA from my diet, decided to tighten up on what I pay attention too. I'm a better person without the NBA :103631605

Coach, I haven't talked to Frankie in fifteen years(maybe five times period), just saw you saying you dealt with him ages ago from previous posts here, as he's friends with some retired relatives of mine..they used to occasionaly talk to a "Fireman" on Sunday Openers back in the day..and also were grabbed by GA and "Sport Of Kings"

I know he came back stateside and is supposedly doing 12 to 18 months?

Red Eye, I'd rather watch chick-flicks than that garbage.

Horeshoe, The "Fireman" could have very well been me. Early 80s if I remember. I went on their side of the counter for 2 1/2 months in 80 and it was the worst mistake of my life. I think we could tell some stories and have a laugh or two. As far as the NBA, I would rather stick needles in my eyes before I will watch that crap! I can't wait for the 06 RX Bash to get here, LT:party:
