I picked up my daughter at the Mandalay Bay last Sunday morning and there was Randy loading up his Hummer to leave after losing to Chuck Liddell the night before. My daughter had attended the fight Sat. night. Since Randy grew up in Oregon where I have spend most of my life, He has always been one of my idols so I went over to shake his hands and tell him how much I admired him. As I was talking to him my daughter was snapping a picture. When He spotted her, He asked who She was. I told him that She was my daughter. He quickly came around to the front of his Hummer and put his arm around me and I got a great photo with my Hero. What a classy guy. Just wanted to share a moment that meant a lot to me.

Amazing how these guys can tear your head off inside the ring and some of them can be the nicest guys in the world on the outside.

Yes I was talking to the guy at Windcity Sports in Henderson and He told me that Randy lives just two houses down from him and that He is just a great guy. He told me to bring the photo to him and He would get Randy to sign it for me... no cost! I just might take him up on his offer as the photo turned out so good. Of course Randy has some welts etc. on his face but it didn't prevent him from flashing a huge smile.

I heard the Liddell rematch might have been his last match. Did he really retire?

Yeah, he retired right after the match ended.

That's a damn shame. There was good money to be made off of Coulture v Liddell steam.

Out of curiousity, approx how much money do ultimate fighters make?

All depends on the contact each fighter has. If you are an opening tier guy you are making 5000 to show up with the winner of the fight getting an extra 5000 roughly. The main event guys.....the true main event guys like Lidell really can command $250000 plus $50000 for the win. Second teir main event guys like Hughes and Arlovski can get $100000 with pretty much the same bonus to win $50000

There sure was. I think the last fight Chuck opened at -200 or so and closed at like -115/-120. Some of those fights really move.

I remember that fight I was thinking I was getting a steal at -140 against Horn but then 20 mins later the line goes to -120 never mind that it opened at -200 I was like well let me doubledrip that then.

The UFC is a classy group. I have worked with them years ago and put me ringside 2nd row as a media journalist for UFC 42 I believe. All the guys respect all media journalists big and small.

Though I have heard some things about the industry you would probably rather not know.

I know Chuck Lidell really well. He is from Cal Poly SLO (my hometown). 100% class act. He use to work at a bar called "The Library" in SLO. The guy was a machine even back then after he wrestled at Cal Poly.

watched the america undercover on hbo about mark kerr with coleman. guy was heavy on the juice and got hooked on nubain or some injectible pain killer. ended up in and out of rehab and eventually ruined his career. guy was a freak dishing out a beat down to all at one point. lot of narcotics sales behind.

Great story. Always nice to hear athletes take time out an do something nice for a fan. It must be hard because they're swamped with photos and autographs all the time.

I'd probably be scared to ask because he has that tough guy exterior but a nice gesture.

The steroid and enhancements in the UFC is unbeliveably huge or use to be at least.

The UFC has suspended guys including Tim Slyvia and Josh Barnett in the past. Both UFC world champs.

Kerr is one the nicest guys you will ever meet - as a freshman at Cuse I was in a bar, Maggy's, and three local white trash started fucking around with him - at the time Kerr is about 6-2 and 200lbs so he was not overwhelmingly imposing - needless to say these scumbags had no clue who they were fucking with - at one point Kerr says "you guys don't want to start with me" and one of the white trash says "why not" and Kerr says because all of my friends are here (all of his buddies from the wrestling team) - eventually, they realize some of his friends were from the wrestling team and decided to leave him alone - these three local pieces of white trash to this day have no clue that he could have ended all their lives in about 30 seconds - they have no clue what a nice guy he is - if not they all would have been hospitalized if not dead - could you imagine of one of them was stupid enough to blind side him and he lost his temper?

Great story and it's one that should remind everyone that you should always treat people with respect as one never knows who you are dealing with. I can recall going on a fishing trip with a good friend who just happened to be the Welterweight Champion of the World at the time. His name was Denny Moyer and He was called Baby faced Moyer as He won the Championship at the age of 22 I believe. Big mistake to mess with him I would think.
