I found this interesting, Sayers returned the punt (not for a TD) on the final play of his record tying performance.......

The Comet had a chance to break the record late in the game when the bears got the ball near the 49ers goal line. But Bears coach George Halas ,fearing injury called for a handoff to Jon Arnett who had scored the Bears' last touchdown. Sayers had one last chance on the final play of that game but he slipped at midfield after returning the punt 32 yards.

Halas fearing injury doesn't give the ball to Sayers, yet he returns the punt on the final play of regulation?
