Call them the Great Betskys.

Hockey icon Wayne Gretzky, under scrutiny after his wife, Janet Jones, was implicated in a sports betting ring, has lost more than $2 million in Las Vegas casinos, an insider said.

Gretzky, head coach of the Phoenix Coyotes, has a credit line that allows him to bet up to $25,000 per hand but plays well below that level, I'm told.

"Anyone who bets $25,000 a hand is a whale. Less than half of 1 percent bet at that level," a casino executive said. "At $25,000, you've got a credit line of $1 million. At that level, you can demand anything you want."

Sources say NBA great Michael Jordan has a $2 million credit line locally.

Gretzky's wife normally plays at the $1,000-a-hand level, a source said. Both usually play blackjack. The couple often plays in the MGM Grand Mansion, where guests must risk $250,000 over two or three days to stay in the high-roller suites.

She is under investigation, published reports say, for betting more than $500,000, including $75,000 on the Super Bowl. Gretzky's associate coach, former NHL player Rick Tocchet, now on a league-ordered leave of absence, is accused of operating the ring with a New Jersey state police trooper.

Has he even charged with anything? No. Will He? No. Hell has he done anything wrong. No as well. The court of public opinion means nothing because this will die down and the next hot topic will be on the front pages that people will gossip about like 16 year old girls.

So what Gretzky likes to gamble in Vegas that means he has something in common with millions of other people who go there. As for betting far below $25000 a hand. Big deal with what he makes its on par as me betting $25 a hand. I just find it funny not from your post im just using that as a springboard to my point that gamblers on these boards are quick to look at Gretzky and his wife for betting on football as something wrong like he is a bad person when its something done by everyone on these boards.

I didn't say betting on football was a bad thing. IT IS a bad thing for someone like Gretz who is a head coach of a professional sports team.

It is a bad thing because even if he doesn't wager on hockey, if he gets in a deep hole, the chances of a game being compromised is greater.

even if this story from this so called "insider" is true its not a crime to play blackjack in Vegas,, I could care less about that.. He's said all along he's never bet a penny in his life on sports, but never said anything about casinos, so I don't really care either way.. But if it turns out he was involved in betting on hockey,, then the shit should hit the fan and a lot more people will be concerned..

To me the issue isn't that Gretzky gambles. It doesn't appear as though he's done so illegally. What is disturbing to me is that it seems as though he and others in the Phoenix organization knowing allowed Tocchet to run his book in plain view of the team and did nothing about it.
