USA curlers 0-3 after an upset loss to Japan today. As silver medal winners in world championships last year, hopes had been high for the USA.

Also known for their cuteness, the good news for them is they remain cute.

You're going up against the mighty Danes today!

(Please be nice to us, the Danish curlgirls are the only athletes we have at this Olympic tournament!)

The circle has 4 rings on it with the centre usually being white. Whoever gets the most rocks in the smallest circle (right in the middle of the rings) gets the point. There is the coles notes verison

And it's much tougher then it looks. You try sticking a 40 pound smooth rock right in the middle on an ice surface.

I told some people at work that the USA team was DQ'ed because of a positive drug pop and they believed me. A joke as a sport.

not exactly how it works.

There are 11 rounds I believe. In each round, each team gets to throw 8 stones (2 throws each by each of the 4 teammates). Alternating throws. Points are awarded by the team with the closest stone(s) in the circle. If team A has 3 stones closer than team B's closest throw, Team A gets 3 points that round. Thus, the last stone can be vitally important. Team B throwing last, could knock out 2-3 of Team A's stones, leaving theirs in the middle and Team B would get points, when it looked like Team A was sitting good. After 11 rounds, the team with the most points wins.

Well I should of added that after 11 ends the game is decided but aside from that the way points are scored is right on the money. Whoever gets the most stones closest to the 4 foot be it one stone (rock) or 8 of them. However sorry if I added any confusion.

Pretty close for curling 101 but there are 10 regulation ends. Extra ends if tied. A gentlemen's sport the losing team may conceed, usually after 8 or 9 ends, if it's clear they are too far behind to have any chance of winning.

I see a couple Canadians replied on this thread. Curling is huuuge up there, and anyone growing up in Canada at least dabbled in or tried the game.

Yes, it's tougher than it looks. No, I don't really understand the popularity of it, especially in Canada, where all the major televised curling tourneys garner the biggest ratings for their time spot.

Overall, :ughhh:
