Will be going to Honalulu next week for 7 days and then on to Maui for 7 Days. If anyone has been there can you recommend some great dining as well as things to do, that maybe differnt than the usual stuff.

In Maui we will Bike the Volcano at sunrise, That I have been told is a must.

Thanks for any info you can pass on.

Haleakala at sunrise is a must. Road to Hana is as well. Whale watching should be great this time of year.Volcano National Park is good too.
Dine at Roy's and enjoy the chocolate souffle !

Have a great time.

Biggest scam in Honolulu are the advertised Pearl Harbor Tours. They get about $25.00 per person. A bus comes to pick you up at your hotel, takes you out to Pearl and drops you at the visitor's center. You visit the site, watch the movie and take the boat out to the Arizona Memorial then board the bus back to your hotel.

However, Pearl Harbor is a FREE National Monument. Go to the nearest corner and catch a city bus for $1.00 and off to Pearl you go.

Free or low cost interesting things to do in Honolulu:

Hike Diamond Head Crater (remember to bring a flashlight for the WWII tunnel part)

Hike Koolau moutain ridge

Enjoy the view on Nuuanu Pali

Snorkle at Hanauma Bay (you have to get up real early for that, but worth it to snorkle in a giant fish preserve)

Polynesian Cultural Center (will be about $25 a person if you find coupons in a tourist book).

Sunset on the Beach in Waikiki

Pearl Harbor and Missouri Battleship on your own

Watch big wave surfers at Pipeline on the North Shore

Eat shave ice in Haleiwa Town

Places to eat? There are tons of them. Depends on what kind of food you are looking for.

You can not go wrong...Just relax and hang loose.. However as above
Whale Watching (Get there early and get to front of line so you can get seat at front of boat)

Hana Ranch...Take all day..around every corner prettier than last corner..Little store on way...Buy some brown bag and just stop on any beach and enjoy....

Polynesian Culture Center....Drive thr u center of state and see the pineapple fields....Dole has ice cream out there middle of nowhere with best ice cream you will ever eat and you can see giant waves and surfers on way...Make a day of it and see show for sure at night at the center.

You will not want to come home....People are great, Weather is great and God outdid himself with the beauty of this place.

Take the boats to Fern Grotto of Kuawi from Thousands palm hotel ( loscrted where Elvis filmed Blue Hawaii.

I could go on and on but you will find out for yourself...Discovering half the fun.

g, went to maui for my honeymoon in 2002.

the sunrise at halekula is really a must however...you have to wake up at like 2:00 am to make it there in time...its a long ass drive. also, it will be about 40 degrees so bring a blanket.

the bike ride down the mountain looked a little dicey to me. no guard rails, etc.

luau was overrated i thought. the snorkeling was awesome. road to hana was cool but, it is an all day affair. buy a book that tells you the places where all the waterfalls are...they are off the beaten path.
