In one of the cross country skiing events the Canadian women's team who were in 3rd at the time, one of the women on the team broke one of her skiing poles. Well in cross country you're not exactly going anyway without both poles. The coach of Norway ran out to the track to give the skier a pole. Good story, even greater when you consider the team of Norway finished 4th. Now that is what the games are suppose to be about.

That's cause you're not Norwegian I'd guess, and you quiet probably have different values. The gesture says it all.

Actually many Norweigan people were interviewed by the CBC on the subject and they basically said they love Canada and it was good sportsmanship.

No I am not norweigan:thumbsup2: Are you??
So you speak for your values because its hard for me to believe that all Norweigans are happy w/ not winning a medal

All that have a brain are happy that it was a fair competition. Would have been happier if they had won a medal, but wouldn't want to get a medal without deserving it, like a certain shortrack champ from Australia 4 years ago....

A minor thing the Canadian team was 3rd at the time but ended up winning silver. However was norway still finished 4th.

He doesn't help as in giving an advantage, he assures a level playing field in case of an incident. Completely different.

As hard as it might be to understand it isn't all about winning.

Its not hard to understand at all:smoking: ....I was just pointing out the fact that there MIGHT be some Norewigans that are unhappy about what he did...Damn I make a statement and you think I was bashing the move...I was just pointing out that there will be some Norweigans that are not happy w/ the gesture..

Somewhere out there is a Norwegian who had his team at +250 to medal in that event; wonder how he feels?

Exactly my thoughts:toast:
You know there is someone in Norway wanting to kill that coach for what he did:103631605

According to a St. Louis Dispatch column on the event, it apparently is a tradition to help out a fellow competitor:
Out of the crowd, an arm extended towards Renner, and someone shoved a new pole in her hand. It was a Norwegian coach; he was simply following an unwritten tradition of their sport.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
This one act of sportsmanship and good will allowed Renner to complete her leg of the two-skier relay. It allowed her teammate, Scott, to make a furious anchor run that earned a silver medal. They missed gold by less than a second to the Swedes.

And I had Norway -120 over Canada in that event...:puppy: what a tough loss
