How is it as a career? I'm looking to get a casino job after working in horse racing for 7 years. I'm pretty sure you don't start out as a Pit Boss, so what type of experience and qualifications do you need? Also how is the pay?

Any other advice for working in a casino.

Dealers school for 6-8 weeks depending what you want to deal. Craps takes about 2 weeks more than Black Jack.
Deal for about 5 years maybe longer, then move to Floor Supervisor of that area. Do that for about 10 years, then by this time HOPE you have some juice to contiune up the ladder. Its ALL about WHO you know by this time. Pit Boss catches ALL the chit ifn things go BAD. Then naturally chit goes downhill from there.
Very very Tuff life in the "Green Felt Jungle" Been there done that.

I've been a dealer for about 7 years now, and Insiders pretty much hit the nail on the head as far as Pit Bosses go..

Depending on where you work, dealers can make just as much, or more, than the Pit Bosses.. I was a floor supervisor at the Hard Rock for awhile, and it sucked.. Dealing is where its at.. No responsibility, no stress, all fun and games

How is tip money taxed? I recall years ago they self reported but now they are taxed on the whole amount.Tax free 100K would be cool. Also heard coctail waitresses and doormen at shows can make more than that

Dealers split their tips, it's all counted out and tracked.

When the Wynn first opened the dealers were having huge weeks now that things have settled in they are making just slightly more than the other top shelf casinos on the strip.

I know, I used to work there and have several friends in differant departments that are still working there.
