How could the US gov't stop this? Seems like a simple solution.

Suppose the gov't really passes this thing, and they are successful in their attempts to block Neteller transactions. Couldn't we all just mail personal checks to Neteller in Canada, and then fly there once a year to collect cash? I guess it wouldn't work as easily for the big players, but even for them, a $200 flight every couple months is only 2% if they can carry up to $10K in cash. It seems like the act of betting will never become an enforceable crime, as evidenced by them not charging Gretzky's wife. So the only problem would be the difficulty in transferring money, and this seems like a solution, for those that are intent on betting offshore. I would probably just bet here in Vegas, but I know that most of you guys don't want to move here. Thoughts?

Aceduecy - one word - ILLEGAL.

US citizens are required to report any business or bank that they have over 10k USD in to the govt. If you dont pay taxes or follow US law it is illegal.

For instance, if you are a 20k investor in an AMsterdam pot cafe - even though it is legal there - you are subject to USA drug laws if you are a US citizen. Ala Jay Cohen.

Illini - the problem is also that sportsbooks often dont bank in the countries that they are located. Some use small countries such as Gibralter, Isle of Man etc for their banking.

Pinnacle doesnt bank on Curacao.

The reason I say this is it is a 10 hour trip to get to gibralter (minimum) and about 1k round trip.

Think about this for a moment. If they stop the sports betting on the net can porn be far behind? There is such a kick to take away things that cause deviant behavior or lead to deviant behavior that it would seem natural. Mags and DVD's do not get it done it todays society.

There are enough people that bet on the internet and are against this that we could take over the damn government if we banned together. Hell if we could have all those 18 year old kids make money by following picks on this forum then they wouldn't have to join the military.

IF the gov. passes any new laws the offshore books will find a work around. It may not be a smooth process, but they will find a way.

Its a cat and mouse game....

I have no doubt that the Off Shore shops will work around all of this and find a solution. But the problem might be this might eliminate a good size pool of people that actually do play off shore and that could hurt the Offshore Books. I can see most of us doing whatever we need to do to keep this thing going but alot of people that actually lose money might not find it worth it to work around the obstacles to lose their money. And without that pool of people it could cause alot of shops to go under.
