I share 4 season seats with my brother, and I've enjoyed the free spending of owner, Arte Moreno. Previous seasons have seen a fresh unfusion of quality talent. Guerrero, Colon, Escobar and Cabrera to name just a few.
So when the hot stove league got cooking and there was talk of adding Konerko or even Manny Ramirez, a big bat to protect Guerrero...expectations were raised pretty high.
As it turned out every team in the A.L. West improved, Texas added pitching (Millwood, Eaton and Padilla), Sea added Lawton and Everett, Oakland added Frank Thomas and Milton Bradley, who if they stay physically and mentally healthy will add much offensively.
Now back to the Anaheim, Los Angeles, California angels, no additions, and they lost Jarrad Washburn and Bengie Molina. The additions being Hector Carrasco (who will spot start, hold the 5th spot in the rotation or be used in long relief) and much traveled Jeff Weaver.
Theres talk of Erstad moving back to centerfield, which means for Figgins to play, and he will play every day.....the angels have to sit much heralded third baseman Dallas Mcpherson, who will battle Rivera for DH ab's.
I like the new catcher, Jeff Mathis, who has future all star written all over him. Salmon returns, and other contributors who have been hampered by injuries will add more this year (Anderson, Salmon and Rivera). We hope.
Now back to the question, after spending hundreds of millions in previous off seasons why go on the cheap this year? It just seems out of character.
Anyone have a reason? Any thoughts?
