Didn't they just play in the last Olympics? That was a huge game - was a semifinal game in the medal round I thought. Awesome 3rd period as I remember - Russia did everything to try and come back to win that game.

The United States' best goalie isn't on the team. It's bad enough that we're not as good as other counties' hockey teams -- but leaving the #1 goalie back in Buffalo is just ridiculous.

I believe the guy responsible is some jerkoff from the Thrashers' organisation.

I don't really think that anyone expected this (old) US team to do well. Hence the serious chalk on Russia.

I'm passing, but the US should lose this. Canada will still medal-if not win it all.

This just in regarding the state of USA hockey
<HR style="COLOR: #fdde82" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->USAHockey will continue to be exploited in international competitions until they finally get the real values of the game instilled in young kids. The way of trying to physically run over every team you play against and try to bruise your way to a low scoring victory is only the style of one nation, can you guess which one?

While on the otherhand as mentioned with our commentators asking "how come they only have 3 right handed sticks on the team? they must be out" is case in point the first fallacy of our development. After learning the basic strides kids in the states are given a stick, puck, and a net in which they want to hit it as hard as they can at. Instead across an ocean or two the net isn't even a factor, allowing the players to develop the correct skill of using your non dominant hand on the bottom of the stick (allows for more puck control). Afterwards American kids try and learn how to check as hard as they can to inflict pain, while Europeans gain the skill to avoid said hits. Even the women take on the characteristics of their male counterparts style (see the Swede/USA shoutout, namely the crowns first attempt).

The problem plaguing the lack of interest nationally compared to internationally stems from this root, and I for one can tell you this much. Go everyone else not wearing a stars and stripes sweater on the ice out there.:toast:

How do you figure the US is overrated? They were solid underdogs to Slovakia and the same to Russia. They don't seem overrated to me. If I remember right, they were about the 7th or 8th choice on the futures too before they started.

Canada is somewhat overrated, but only because people still forget about the bigger ice and what sort of players it favors. All day long announcers were talking about how big the Canadian team is, but with a big sheet of ice it puts less value on having those rugged 2-way players. If you can skate faster than them, you can beat them and put them in a more defensive position. Canada still has plenty of talent and can win it all, but obviously the expectations of them winning in a cakewalk are being revisited.

USA was +110 vs slovalia, they tied worst team in the tourney, Russia beat same team 9-2. Now Russia is only half goal favorite, that is what I mean by overrated.

Canada is grossly overrated, USA much overrated. What is combined record of these 2? is it 0-5 ats? or 0-6?

Field is -280 vs Canada. Canada has much better chance of getting 4th or worse than 1st.

Rail, US was +.5 +110, they were +150's on the ML against Slovakia. That is a pretty big dog and a similar price against Russia. I think Slovakia is a better team than Russia so they price is showing the US is in less favor now than before.

And come on, Latvia is far from the worst team in the tournament.

I'm in agreement with Rail. I'm guessing the US prices are reflecting that there aren't a plether of Ruskie's betting on this. Maybe the square money has watch Miracle one too many times???

Prediction:

If Rail met any of the US Hockey team face to face he'd have his nose so far up their ass that they wouldn't be able to sit down for a week.
