Might be better to define it best region or city, state is too big , the large states would easily have the best chance to have the most quality teams.

Boston/New England has been doing well, and over the years with the Celtics and Bruins...now its the Sox and Patriots.

Here locally ;

It runs in cycles too...in the late 60's and early 70's Baltimore had great teams , Orioles, Colts, and Bullets and U of Maryland Basketball and Lacrosse (Johns Hopkins and Md)

If I could pick a region to have been a fan of, I would go with Boston, they have had many competetive teams in all sports, Celtics were great for so many years, in Hockey they had great tradition, and with the Red Sox and Patriots recents championships have rally solidified the pro franchises place near the top.

In the 70's Pittsburgh was the city of champions(Steelers and Pirates), also the Pitt Panthers in 1976 and 1980 had great teams.

Florida, Texas, and California are probably the top 3 but I think North Carolina is really good for its size.

Carolina Panthers
Carolina Hurricanes
UNC, Duke, Wake, NC State, Wilmington for basketball
UNC and NCSU baseball
NASCAR in Charlotte
Charlotte Bobcats who stink right now
Pinehurst Golf Course
Decent ACC football in NCSU, UNC, Wake
Wake, Duke, UNC college soccer
Overall good HS football, soccer, bball

California with No NFL puts them out and I'd say Florida's fishing, golfing, Nascar (Daytona 500) and hosting of big event football games college and pro would put them over the top of Texas as far as the big 3 go.

BEST OVERALL............ILLINOIS.

This is not even close.

Not even close? Wtf?

Cubs have sucked for 1 million years.
White Sox finally won
Bulls great run with MJ that was it.
Bears had one great era that last 4-5 yrs , in the last 35 years
Blackhawks errr
Illinois football and hoops, not all that great.

I would take quite a few areas over this group...what are your reasons Fish?

You mean L.A. with NO NFL. There are still the Chargers and 49ers playing here. With it's year around weather, especially no rain, Calif. makes it to the top in anyone's list. They have everything that any other top state has except it's always done with nicer weather and the lack of humidity.

I like the fact that here in Minnesota we have the Twins, Vikings, T-Wolves and Wild on the Pro front and the Gophers to cheer for in College. Hazelton golf course has held a couple of majors the last 10 years in professional golf even though we can only golf about 7 months of the year here. The only thing we dont really have is a great tennis player to follow. At one Time David Wheaton did really well.....So...I would rate Minnesota right up their,but...................THE WEATHER SUCKS IN THE WINTER!

I meant LA with no FB my bad. Just noticed a buttload of NASCARERS even as far away as tampa en route to the Daytona 500, and was thinking how good Florida was ALL AROUND in sports. Add spring training and host to top ranked boxing matches to Florida's mix and I think it's tops.

How could it get any better than Indiana?

We are the state of "regular season greatness, post season failures"

We have the colts, who cant win a playoff game...

We have the pacers who cant win a title

We have notre dame who wins all year, but cant win a bowl game

We have the hoosiers who used to win, but would get knocked out of tourney early.....

that about sums it up..
