I'm a gambler and I still don't give a sh1t. I'd think that ignorant people in Canada may care, but the success is the equivalent of fielding the English cricket team vs a bunch of Latin american cricket teams and screaming loud when the islanders win by 4 digit scores.... The sport is not popular enough to have a level playing international field.
Uuuh, not quiet. I'm not talking about domination and one team being BETTER than the others. I'm talking about most teams sucking BAD. Pre 1972 hoops was a mature sport, it was way more popular in the US than in Europe, but it was still being played all over the world. Players were trying, but US were simply better.
Women hockey? About 10 countries care about men's game, guess how many will ever be able to field a competitive women's team.
If sports like that make the winter olympics - rugby, cricket, and whatnot other BS should be included back into the olympic program too, and I for one don't really want to see that.

About the Canadian gold, people trying to show patriotism again, sadly failing and showing nothing but ranting. The value of a medal is in the competition you've beaten. There was no competition and not because the Canadian girls are gods, but because the sport is not mature enough outside this country to provide any.
Women hockey has no place in the olympics program because the sport is not being developped. I'd have thought that after 2002 people would have realised that it's a joke. When a team plays with a player less for 24 minutes and still wins 3:1 in an olympics final, it should be obvious that the sport should be developped OR dropped. Nothing has changed for 4 years. I'd hazard a guess nothing will change in 4 more, unless they make some kind of a women hockey league or more regular international championships.
I'm not sure whether it should be an Olympic sport or not. I would agree that it is not very competitive at this point. However, doesn't excuse zee's comments towards Canadians which I am one of. I would have a few choice words for you but I wouldn't want to see the thread moved to the rubber room. I'd rather see your post stand so others can see how ignorant you are.
You're missing my point, when I said "ignorant canadians" it was with regard of the fact that this gold medal is sure to be the big story of the olympics(unless the men win the gold too..) while Heil's gold is a far bigger achievement and far more worth talking about. My "ignorant" was refering to the people who don't follow sports, and who may remember this win as the win of the 2006 olympics because of all the noise it's making.
