This was a feature on the local news. Here's a site that helps to match buyers and sellers of their cell phone contracts (for a $20 fee). The incentive for the buyer is they can get a contract with less than the original number of months and usually a free phone to boot. You also get to keep your phone number.
I wish I would have known about this a couple of months ago before I signed my life away to the evil and deceptive Cingular.

Do some research on their web site first. The lowest option they offer in the stores is 700 minutes per month for family share. If you don't need that much they have 550 minutes on the site for $10 less per month, although they may pretend to know nothing about it. Ask them to look on the web site to refresh their memory. Also, don't fall for the $30 auto charger, if you need one you can pick it up on eBay for $10 including shipping. They may offer a better phone price deal/rebate on the web site also, so you might want to print out the deal you are looking for and bring it with you.

I used to have ATT for my provider and a three year old phone. The reception from my home was not very good. I wanted a new phone and better reception. Recently Cingular acquired ATT. When I called Cingular to get a new phone/contract, the salesperson assured me the new Cingular system was far superior to the old ATT. My impression was they didn't care about or want to invest in the old ATT system with new towers etc.
I signed a two year contract and got a new phone. The reception at home is the same as before: spotty.

The rebate thing is such a scam. Not only do you practically need a CPA and notary to complete the thing, but it also can expire quickly. Again, I asked the salesperson if I would have any trouble actually gettting the rebate. My rebate expired 5 weeks after I recieved my phone. That sounds like a long time, but four of those weeks were time that one could send the phone back in exchange for another. That first month is like an evaluation time to make sure the phone works okay. This effectively gives a one week window to apply for the rebate. Of course I found this out after 6 weeks.

T-mobile with a one year contract would have been a better choice for me.

cingular provides the best reception on the east coast of florida by far. so thats not an issue here .

i am looking for about 900 minutes a month to share and hopefully they still offer the free night minutes to start at 7 p.m.

i think you have to pay a little extra but thats ok with me.
