Yup.

Shopping for good lines betting angles on sports: Very bad!

Blowing your paycheck you slaved for on the lottery: Hey, no problem!

they walk away with 15 million each after taxes all 8 of them

8 x15 = 90

Kid - 8*15 is 120 million, by the way.

Basically if you choose the cash option, you would get the annuity that the state would purchase to make the yearly payment option. That annuity is roughly 50% of the payout.

so.......50% of 365 million is around 180 million.

And assuming close to a 40% state and federal tax hit, you would be pretty close to 120 million.

it drives me a little crazy. everytime someone hits a big powerball like this they say this amount after taxes. that is only the amount after the 28% federal withholding for winning a lottery prize. there is more federal taxes when your in the top bracket like these people will be for tax year 2006.

Has to do with time value of money.

The 365 million is the future value of the current prize money discounted at a given rate. I dont know exactly what # they use, but I would guess its about 8%.

Hey, it is cool if it is young blue collar workers that shared in this big powerball payout. imho when one person wins like 100 million or more. it can be a bit overwhelming.

8 Mill is great ! You could just live off of 5% interest and still blow $1,000 a day forever.

They were each paid 22.1M..which minus tax and annuity-option puts it around 15.5M...can afford plenty of Omaha's finest Steaks and some Berkshire Hathaway stock now.
