Steve Francis is headed to New York under a deal agreed to Wednesday by the Knicks and the Orlando Magic.

The teams agreed to a trade of Francis for Penny Hardaway and Trevor Ariza, two league sources with knowledge of the deal told ESPN.com.

The trade was expected to be announced later Wednesday afternoon after being called in to the league office.

In New York, Francis will be paired with Stephon Marbury as the highest-paid backcourt duo in the NBA.

is it just me or do the knicks ALWAYS trade expiring contracts that would help them at the end of the season for players with HUGE contracts that screw them for years to come?

This is getting hilarious. Isiah is the dumbest person to ever run a team. This is embarassing.

Orlando did a wise thing getting rid of the overrated Francis.......

But bringing back Penny to Orlando..........:icon_conf

My oh My how things change.....

Amazing that Hardaway was once a top 5 player in the league........

Grant Hill is next to go, somehow, someway, and then the Magic will have some $$'s to build this team around Dwight Howard.....

Orlando is going to be in great shape this off season.
Grant Hill's 15 mill is also coming off the books.
Plus 5 mill due to Tony Battie and almost 3 mill to DeShawn Stevenson.

Who's GM'ing these days down there? Maybe the Knicks can spend 20 million to get him in NYC

Wow....I think I said the EXACT same three sentences to a friend of mine earlier today when I heard about the trade.

I guess great minds think alike. :pope:

He put the Knicks into a finanacial situation they may never get out of even before this trade...now he trades expiring contracts that were coming off the books for a multi-year overpaid player. Absolutely incredible!!!

Francis, Marbury, and Crawford...LMFAO!!!

But would if he made this trade to make another trade??? Like Garnett???

Have to match salaries in this league.

Why would you trade expiring contracts though? That is the point. Those were coming off the books next year.

Now they will still suck and are running out of options on trading equal contracts. Who is going to take Marbury, Francis, or Jerome James?

Can we call him and get him to take Mobley for the next few years and give us back Q?

I am almost 100% positive he would take it and Q could revitalize his career back with the Clips.

I was so hoping we could get a big guy from them for anything. Mobley would be great to get rid of.

I knew Isiah didn't care before the year started. When they added the "Allen Houston" clause this year, (this clause was there just to help the Knicks out of their hole.) he goes out and brings in Q.

It's funny. Isiah is the worst GM in the league and his ex-back court mate Joe Dumars might be the best. :103631605
