damn, thought they'd let Lewis walk so Taylor could be the featured back?? :icon_conf

Unless they feel like making a serious run at Alexander, Foster, or Edge, this seems ignorant on their part. They already have QB issues, the running game was the only thing they had on offense.

Wow, big surprise here. I think the NFL is figuring out these RBs aren't worth big money. More and more they are a function of the line and luck with injuries. Alexander is the best of the bunch, but put him behind a bad line and he will become mediocre fast.

Ravens probably are looking for a guy that will be versatile and catch lots of passes. A power runner when your line isn't opening holes does you no good so even Taylor isn't a great fit.

No love here for Justin Green.

Please Billick let JGreen tote the rock. He has the attitude, work ethic and class to be a very good back for you. He's not just a blocker.

Any of those running backs can still add a couple more wins to get their team into the playoffs. Jamal Lewis still is a beast. Those running backs can make a team for one year. So many situations. All the running back injuries in Green Bay. What if Favre says go out and pick up James or Lewis. With a healthy Javon Walker this season, I guarantee you will see a 10-6 team in that division and conference.

Lewis is still very young...he may be older than his years with the amount of carries he's already put on his somewhat fragile injury prone body, he didn't run with the same fire and it was very obvious he wasn't as focusedby the amount of silly fumbles.

All that and the Ravens line was a complete joke.

How many years does a guy like Edge James have left?

All I know is whoever runs in Seattle is a very lucky man. Could be another MVP no matter who it is. Just will go to prove running these days is all about the line, not the runner.

It appears the league is adopting the "mike shannahan" disposable aproach towards running backs.

I am not sure I agree, I would think if you have a Alexander or Lewis or that type of quality, you should buy them a line and play football.

If they bought into Shanahan's theory they would be using his scheme of zone blocking. Amazing that they don't since two of the best running teams used it last year. If you don't use zone blocking then running backs aren't easily replaced, but they still don't really deserve huge contracts. Backs break down too easily and far too young to give them a huge commitment. Best backs are ones that beat other teams with big receptions, especially converting 3rd downs. Besides the best teams are the ones that run the ball well, but don't try to overdo it. You still win with passing in the NFL, as the Steelers proved this year. They never win the title if the old Cowher style was used.

You read my mind Dante - when I heard this today on the radio that was my first thought - he would be an excellent replacement for the Bus. They do have Willie Parker and Duce Staley so I'm not sure they would want him. I still think he has a couple of productive years left

He has 3-4 years left, no doubt...and behind that great line, he would be awesome.

NFL Network's Adam Shefter reports that Jamal Lewis will re-sign with the Ravens for three years and close to $25 million.
The Mike Anderson era didn't last long. We suspect the third year has a balloon payment that won't be reached, but Lewis wasn't getting better offers elsewhere. Lewis is still young enough to bounce back from his health and attitude problems and be a fantasy factor. But after his miserable 2005 season, he's among the biggest question marks in the league. You'll have 2 strong backs but no big ones after you draft Maroney in the 1st rd.
