Ben Roethlisberger, Deshea Townsend, and Hines Ward sighting

Saw these guys at the Palms today. They were playing blackjack in the high-limit pit, and then came down into the main casino to play craps. Like a dipshit, I bought in for $100 and played with these guys. Cold table and I lost the entire $100 in 10 minutes. Roethlisberger took a $7,000 marker and bet $25 on the pass line and max odds. He likes the field bet for $200 sometimes also, and an occasional hardway. Ward and Townsend bet smaller. Only one girl with them, a 42 year-old half-decent but not very good lucking woman. She seemed to be working Ben with all she had, and I couldn't tell if he was gonna bang her or not.

Shit you guys should come out here in the summer. Every weekend in June it seems there are 20 pros wandering casino floors and going in the VIP entrances of clubs. We joked last year if you didn't see a Sacramento King whenever you went into the Palms you must have been there at about 9am and didn't visit the pool.

38-44, most likely, but would lean towards being older than 40. She definitely wasn't hot. I definitely wouldn't hit it if I was a World Champion QB.
I walked up to the table and bought in next to Ben. We both said hello, and then the pit boss told me that I couldn't play on that end of the table. They seemed like regular guys, really. Ben would get really excited when he bet the field and won his $200 bets. Hines and Deshea were betting small, and none of them seemed like they thought they were big time. I'll try and get you an autograph, because I'm sure they would be willing to give me one. It's refreshing, really. There was a huge Steeler fan next to me, and Ben had signed his Steelers cap. But here was this huge Steelers fan, playing craps with the stars of the team, and it was no big deal. Just people that are no different than us, really.

I used to stay at the Palms a few days a week when I lived in San Diego (they have kick ass beds). There were always sports figures hanging out there. Have seen Big Ben and Bettis, J. Ogden, Clemens (at 2 a.m. the night before a start in SL that he won), Sheffield, Dirk, Nash and countless other NBA players. I've never once seen them harrassed at the Palms, Joe Public knows how to act there.

On the flip side, I took my son to Blue Man Group for his 8th birthday and he wore a Polamalu jersey, and some guy five rows back and about 15 seats down starts screaming at my kid, fired up he's got a Pittsburgh jersey on. I have a feeling that if that guy was playing at your table he would have passed out from the excitement and scared the players off.
