Only professionals or highly sophisticated semi-professionals need answer the question as it is stated.

Others feel free to chime in on what your thoughts possibly might be on this subject.

Thanks,

Fish,

I don't consider myself a "Professional Gambler" because I can't rely on that income alone. However being that I dedicate so much of my time to capping & wagering , many who know me but don't understand the true nature of the business look down upon people such as myself & most on this forum.

Its not a respected business practice, but its funny how trading stocks is.

It would obviously depend on the PG degree of success. Just being a PG does not insure winning either. I feel sorry 10 PG's for the one really successful one, I may have SOME jealousy for (but that guy can put in hours and hours at his craft to churn his profit.) I feel sorry for many of them for countless reasons. I am more jealous of the successfull bookmaker, he has a sure thing.

Reasons for jealousy they can make their own hours, smoke/drink on the job, no boss, and hopefully enjoy what they do.

I'm met with high degree of you're full of shit.

Only people who know me well I tell them what I do for a living. Other than that, I try to stay low profile.

I myself have been doing this amoung other gambling related things sinse way back in the late 60's. I also try my very best to NOT let outsiders know anything about my business. Have found the less they know the better off i am.
The ones that do know of my business say they have No problems with it, its the ones that "think" they know my business that look down thier nose at me sometimes.
HAve learned also that sometimes its much better to stay out of sight, and out of ther minds.

I am not a professional gambler, but as a grad student it is my only source of income. I was recently in London and I was in the hotel lounge with my laptop doing some capping (around midnight London time). A bunch of Irish girls who were clearly digging me came and sat down and asked why I was ignoring them and only paying attention to my computer. I told them I was a professional gambler and I was working. If they liked me before, they were really intrigued by me after I told them that. Unfortunately my wife was in the hotel room upstairs.....

Moral of the story - chicks dig professional gamblers!

No, moral of the story is: Europeans are open minded.
In NA, if you try this line on an unknown girl, odds are she'll run in disgust.

I thought the moral of the story was: Don't get married.

agree 100 % with big bet and sworthy about the stock quote...i've always said that....other than the few people close to me nobody respects what i do whatsoever....was in a relationship for over 5 years ...all of which i was a pro sports gambler....my gf grew to resent me because of her being jeoulous of me not having to "work"..(even though she reaped alot of the benifits)....ended up finally splitting up.....but for me i do it out of neccesity...due to other reasons i wasn't able to go to college, so this is the only job i know of that can keep me acustomed to the life i like to live...and make this type of money....

Close friends might be a little jealous, but that is probably because they like to bet on horses/sports too.
Others look down upon it.
I'm considered the black sheep of the family.

Disagree somewhat as I have only lived in Europe for six months. Younger American chicks not looking to get married would find it mysterious and just think gambling=Vegas. Chicks looking for a husband, you're probably right for the most part.

People don't understand it is work.Mentally taxing work.I had the same thing with my gf. Sometimes I didn't want to decide what restaurant to go to or what movie to see that evening. So I had her decide.I was tired of "picking" or "choosing" for that day. She never seemed to comprehend that fully.

The only way you get people jealous is if you accumulate a lot of high priced items, like a house or an expensive car. If you're not a winner you can't acquire these items so you're not a very good gambler, even if you are a pro. Very few reach the heights of a Lem Banker. Now THERE'S a PROFESSIONAL gamble!:dancefool

I find I do get funny looks from those who went to University with me (and haven't found a job yet) when I jet off to Vegas, SoCal or Cyprus for weeks at a time, as they don't understand how I can afford to do it when I'm just trading sports..

On the relationship side, it does tax them.. I've been with a couple of girls who could understand that I needed to work late nights (Euro time) to make the money, but others couldn't understand it.. the one who did best was training to be a lawyer, and so understood the long hours that came with that profession, which might be the key I guess...

Well stated, and have found the same to be very true.

Most people when told that you are a professional gambler, say I never meet one before. They can not beleive that one can make a living(few can).
People who know PG love it because they never have to pay for any meals, when one is around,PG really enjoy picking up checks.PG love sex, always in action, like to travel, have plenty of time to play all kinds of live sports. The PG at the top wont waste the hours Handicapping.THEY KNOW THE RIGHT PEOPLE AND NUMBER TO PLAY THE GAMES.
People that want to be real successful in gambling must
1)disipline and money management
2)play the best number(need many outs that pay)
3)proven handicapper
4)bank roll
5)lower juice
6)knowing the right people is like stealing
7)WATCH YOUR HEALTH(many PG have too much stress)
8)instinctly know where the number on most games will be going, this does take screen watching (hours should be spent learning which moves are real and which are fake) I could tell you which offices move fast or slow and which already know (the real SIDE,most of the time)but what fun would that be.The only tip ill give you is that CRIS moves on money.Going back to topic of question, what is your opinion?

You can't tell anyone. They will either think your lying, a degerate in denial, or hiding some other illigal occupation.

I just tell people I sold my previous business. I am now retired and like to dabble in stock trades to explain my lack of job and availabilty to play golf every day.

I've come to realize if I say sports investing, then people somehow look at you in the lighter side than gambling. I think it comes with the idea that whenever you associate something with gambling, you're bound to be a loser (not necessarily true). But when you say investing, they're thinking along the lines of wall street and there's a possibilty that I am indeed making a profit.

From a personal standpoint, the investing term gets a more positive reaction but it's all psychological.
