As I sit here watching Elton do what he has done all season (DOMINATE), I had to start an MVP thread. This guy is an absolute beast.

Coming in to tonight (has 24 points, 8 boards, 3 blocks, 2 assists, and a steal tonight at the end of the 3rd):

<TABLE class=tablehead cellSpacing=1 cellPadding=3 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR class=stathead><TD colSpan=4>2005-06 Statistics</TD><TD align=middle colSpan=2>FG</TD><TD align=middle colSpan=2>3PT</TD><TD align=middle colSpan=2>FT</TD><TD align=middle colSpan=3>Rebounds</TD><TD align=middle colSpan=6>Misc</TD></TR><TR class=colhead align=right><TD align=left> </TD><TD>G</TD><TD>GS</TD><TD>MIN</TD><TD>FGM-A</TD><TD>FG%</TD><TD>3PM-A</TD><TD>3P%</TD><TD>FTM-A</TD><TD>FT%</TD><TD>OFF</TD><TD>DEF</TD><TD>TOT</TD><TD>STL</TD><TD>BLK</TD><TD>TO</TD><TD>PF</TD><TD>AST</TD><TD>PTS</TD></TR><TR class=oddrow style="TEXT-ALIGN: right"><TD align=left>Season</TD><TD>51</TD><TD>51</TD><TD>39.8</TD><TD>494-944</TD><TD>.523</TD><TD>0-1</TD><TD>.000</TD><TD>308-390</TD><TD>.790</TD><TD>3.2</TD><TD>7.1</TD><TD>10.3</TD><TD>1.08</TD><TD>2.59</TD><TD>2.16</TD><TD>2.84</TD><TD>2.7</TD><TD>25.4</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Wow!!!

25.4 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.59 blocks, 1.08 steals, 52.3% from the field...

COME ON!!!

An unbelievable season, no doubt...I still have him at #2 behind Nash, though.

Wouldn't mind seeing co-MVPs...love both those guys, and both are very deserving.

Nash is amazing...but he only plays at one end of the floor.

EB even grabs more steals than Nash. Nash is an amazing offensive point guard. He does it all offensively. But he does nothing on defense. Not a little...I mean nothing.

Elton Brand is undersized at the PF spot and is 6th in the league in rebounds and 5th in the league in blocks. He plays at both ends non stop.

not to mention he's a class guy as well, it would be nice to see a good guy win it.

Nash could win back to back...I think if the Clippers finish out strong Brand wins it...if they end up 8th or fall out of the playoffs then probably not.

Nash is amazing , guy came out of Santa Clara as an unheralded white boy, and he is top 5 MVP candidate annually now, just incredible.

Nash has actually improved on the defensive end, but I agree that he dominates only one side of the court.

Still, I think he's got to be #1. Without Stoudamire, with a brand new supporting cast, he's carrying that team, and no one makes everyone around him better than he does. With Elton, as phenomenal a year as he's had, I think the Clippers' success has more to do with his supporting cast being much better than in years past. Elton has put up great numbers throughout his career, but without Cassell, Mobley, and Co., the Clips are still losers. And I think Nash has done more to make Jones, Bell, House, and others better than Brand has made the aformentioned better.

Just my opinion, though. I love Brand and to this die still tear up thinking about how MJ didn't pull the trigger on the Brand for #1 pick trade when it was on the table...especially now, considering that the Wizards are one consistent post threat away from being a serious contender.

Nash makes players better in the offensive stat categories...Brand makes his team better doing all the dirty work.

Nash's stats are also inflated and his teams never win in the playoffs because they just run around looking to outscore everyone. Most point guards in the league would have great offensive numbers if they played run and gun and no defense.

I think Nash is a great offensive player...but I also feel he is overrated. There are a lot of point guards that would have career years playing in Dallas with Nowitzki/Finley and never having to play defense...then going to Phoenix and doing the same thing (great offensive numbers...awesome regular season record...but can't ever win without defense in the playoffs) with Phoenix with Stoudamire/Marion.

Phoenix isn't a bad team without Stoudamire.

Keep in mind Elton is playing without 22.0 per game scorer Maggette.

I don't think you can bring up Nash's inability to get to a Finals, considering that Brand has never even sniffed the playoffs. Also, Nash has been a couple games away from the Finals on more than one occasion, hasn't he?

I also disagree that he's overrated. Nash does play SOME D...sure he's not great, but he does put forth effort. But the guy does what his team needs him to do in order for them to be successful. There's a reason Jason Terry, who's a very talented PG, isn't putting up comparable #'s to that of Nash's when he was in Dallas. I also think if the Suns have a healthy Stoudamire and home court advantage, they could very easily win the West. It's a shame that he won't be fully healthy come playoff time, but they'll still be a force to be reckoned with.

Also keep in mind that this is his 2nd year there...and the Suns were a joke before he got there.

And I'd say that Phoenix WOULD be a bad team without Stoudamire...if it weren't for Nash. Put Tony Parker or Jason Terry, even Chauncey Billups on that team instead of Nash, and they aren't nearly as good offensively and not good enough defensively to win any games.

We'll have to agree to disagree. Oh well. It'll be a terrific race for MVP down the stretch nonetheless.

The Clippers would have no chance without Brand.

Can't the same be said of Sam Cassell?

Alright I gotta go masturbate. I'll check this thread in the AM or something.

I think if the voters believed they could go anywhere in the playoffs he would get some votes. 3rd probably.

Brand has never had a Nowitzki/Finley combo or Marion/Stoudamire combo to play with either.

Dallas won 58 games without him last year.

Right...because Dallas plays defense now! LOL He could increase his points and assists if they were chuck it up and try and outscore everyone...but they are a better team now by playing defense and have a better chance to win in the playoffs.

Terry averages more steals and less turnovers. He is a much different player than Nash.

Dallas hasn't taken any steps back without Nash. They won 58 games last year (.707 winning %). They are #1 in the West right now at 43-11...I think Terry is doing just fine inheriting Nash's old team.

There is another player (Stoudamire) that had a lot to do with that also. They also brought in Jimmy Jackson.

I like the fact he acts civil, professional and doesn't pump his chest.

Only Jerry Krause could pull off an Isiah Thomas-like trade sending him to the Clippers for Tyson Chandler. Biggest need for the Bulls is an inside scorer who can pull down 10+ boards/night.

MVP Race:
1-Nash
2-Billups
3-Brand
4-James
4-Kobe (and he can move up if LAL make the playoffs because that team is garbage)

The Brand theft along with the Corey Maggette theft from Orlando were just 2 of the recent GREAT front office moves the Clippers have made.

Billups is having an incredible year...but you talk about a supporting cast!

I'd take Lebron to start my franchise...but I'd take Elton as my MVP so far this season. He is everything an MVP should be.

If it isn't based on "name recognition"...I know which player SHOULD be chosen between the two (Brand/Nowitzki).
