Believe it or not, I don't think there are as many as we think. 10k would be my guess, based on the fact I see a lot of the same guys on all the major forums. I would define hardcore sports gambling as gambling almost every day, several games a day, betting significant amounts, and belonging to at least one forum.

There are probably hundreds of thousands or even millions of CASUAL sportsgamblers, guys that only bet one sport and bet smaller amounts and are not using the net much.

I'd guess that you're in the right ballpark...I've met many casual sports bettors but never just happened across a real bettor. I'd guess the number at between 20 and 40K that do it every day. Millions have placed bets occasionally.

I'd like to know how many there are who simply bet sports to make a living in the US? (Living defined as their only sourse of income).
Guess 90% or more live in Nevada.

I think that is an underestimate. There are marketing lists around with a lot more than that. You would be surprised at some of the people who pay big $$ for picks.

Beano Cooke was being interviewed once & the guy doing the interview made the statement; "Only about 2% of people watching sports actually bet on sports" To which Beano replied with one of my favorite lines ever. He said; "Well......they all must live on my street then"

My guess is very few as it's a very hard way to make an easy living.

Re: number of players betting sports. This is part of an email soliciation I received today for a company being sold:

"we have amassed many databases of clients. All of
these will be sold as well. There are over 6 million emails and 3
million players. "

A better question is what constitutes a hardcore player offshore. 100K bet a year. 500K, higher. I think amounts is the difference in separation.

I would think $500k a year in aggregate action would not be out of the question for those that play on a regular basis. There might even be some here that do that in 1-2 months during foots or baskets, but probably won't admit it.

I don't think a hardcore gambler should be judged on the amount of money per pick. I think it is all relative, I am not a rich or even very well off person but I bet everyday. I'll average about $75 to $200 in bets per day. Which that is alot to me, more than a millionare betting $1000 per game. I'd say that a "hardcore" gambler should be judged on a % and how much they gamble. I know a few sportsbettors that are very much into it and I know a few that consider themselves sportsbettors but they just bet their friends on games every once in a while.
