The Big 10 is right there with the Big East as the best conference in the nation, but I have serious doubts whether the Big 10 gets many teams past the first weekend of play. The only team I expect to make it to the Sweet 16 is Ohio State. Not that I feel they will be the only team, but they're the only team I feel would be favored to survive the first two games. I know alot depends on match-ups in the tournament, but I feel several teams from the Big East have very good shots at the Sweet 16, but I don't have the same feel for the Big 10.

Ohio State and Illinois only in the Sweet 16. Neither in the Final 4. Iowa loses first round. MSU should win 1 game.

Great point....Big 10 always seems to find away to get a team or two real deep in the tourney. And it usually isnt a team expected to go far.

IOWA is going out first round but the rest of the B10 will do just fine...just like every year.

big win today for Indiana, as it might help them sneak in.....they definitely have to beat purdue next week, and MAY NEED the win at Michigan at well.....1 of the 2 gets them to 8-8 in very tough big ten, and they have a winning record against the top 50 teams in country, something alot of other bubble teams do not have........

If they win both games, i think they are in, but if they split will need at least 1 if not 2 wins in Big 10 tourney......

7 of 10 teams pretty good .;.. 8?

Well, there are 11 teams in the conference, and Minny, Northwestern, Purdue, and Penn State will not make it.....

Indiana and Michigan are on the bubble.....so 6 is likely, 7 is possible...but no more..

Bucky,

IU's gonna have to win the next two, plus one (possibly two) game in the Big 10 tourney... losing 7 of 8 before winning the past two just about crushed their hopes.

imo, they ARE one of the top 35 in the nation (after removing the 30 automatic bids). They are more deserving than UK imo as well (UK is just about assured a birth).

Hope they make it buddy :103631605

On another note about UK: Not looking forward to UK running into Duke, UCONN or Villanova in the second round and getting beat by 25. I wouldn't be too disappointed if they lose in 1st round in a close game to avoid getting smoked 2 days later

I doubt IU will need to win the next 2 and win 2 in teh BTT to get in. They would be 9-7 in conference by just winning the next 2 games. They could lose first round of BTT and get in with that scenario. I think theyre in if they split Purdue/Mich and win two BTT games for sure, and could get in wtih just one win(but that would be a 6-10/7-11 matchup so it wouldnt be a good win).

And on to Big Ten and tourney, teams will need to watch out for Michigan St. This team is capable of hitting the final 4 again, remember Trannon has been out, he is coming back. I picked them to go Final Four last year and may do the same this year(I got all 4 right last year actually, first time since I was like 9 I was in only one pool and of course its the first frickin time I win a pool)

MSU, Iowa, Illinois, Ohio St all have good shots to get to Sweet 16. MSU and Ohio St could get to final 4.

Ohio St.'s the best team in the big 10 right now...

And they are nowhere as good as Nova or UConn.

WHere would Notre Dame finish at in the Big 10?

Big Ten will get one or two more than they deserve, as will The Big East. The teams that will suffer will be mid majors that deserve more than the obligatory one or two teams. Many of the mid majors are better than middle tier teams on top conferences.

Hate say I predicted the Big-10 would falter in the tournament, but it was true.

so many people make the big dance this conference vs. this conference...conferences aren't playing each other....you play other teams...anyone can win on any given day. It's more about matchups as well. how far a team or teams go in the dance does not make their respective conference better than another! Big 10 from top to bottom was right with the big east this year as top conference quality wise in basketball...because they aren't represented in the dance doesn't mean anything about how good the conference is or if they are overrated, etc. On that note, very piss poor play by the big10 in the tourney.

Viking, I think we both agree Iowa was the most disappointing team, blowing two big leads, missing two free throws in the final minute and losing to a team, that inturn, got pounded yesterday.:nohead:

easily the most. they actually made a run at WV yesterday but couldn't get over that last hump.

what a way for those 4 senior to end their career...a prayer shot from damn near out of bounds!

But when you lead by 14 early and 17 late, a team should never be in position to win the game. Alford's last Iowa coached game? If it was, and I believe it was, what a way to go. Other thoughts on the Big-10, Ohio State was on a slide since they went through that 3-point streak, that included a pounding of Illinois. Michigan State was a mystery all year. Illinois, much like Iowa, let a sizeable lead slip away. Wisconsin was a marginable tournament team. I say Indiana was the only Big-10 team to play better than expected. They beat an athletic San Diego State team and gave Gonzaga a great run, by shuting down Morrison. It's ironic that Davis is leaving. He will be a sought after commodity. Look for Iowa State to make a strong bid.

How can you guys say the Big 10 was on par with the Big East with a straight face? If we can't judge them by their performance in the tournament, WTF are we supposed to judge them by? Their conference record against the rest of the average teams. The Big 10 had a bunch of average teams this years but as usual got rated higher than they should have. I'm a Big 12 fan and it was a down year for them also. The Big East is clearly the best conference this year. ACC is up there too. SEC is better. Pac 10 right up there too except they suffer the old West Coast nobody sees them play syndrome. Face it. The Big 10 sucked.

I wouldn't say the Big-10 sucked this season, but they did in the tournament. I have to wonder, CY1981, why you would respond to this thread, but apparently missed the one I made about Iowa State having the lowest basketball I.Q. in the nation? At least with Morgan being fired and Stinson and possibly Blalock gone next year, the teams G.P.A. should improve. But they do lose John Neal, so that will hurt.
