Is it smart/profitable to play the -1 run line (only book i have that allows this is Pinny) in baseball? It lowers the vig when playing a fav. And also lowers your risk compared to the -1.5 line since you get a push instead of a loss when your side wins by 1.

Is this smart? Or is it more like buying points in hoops where you're lowering your ROI and actually hurting yourself in the long run?

It has been shown that you can play both the ml and rl and get a better price.

what do you mean?

And i'm just talking about playing the -1 (not -1.5) run line to lower the juice on a fav.

There is a huge thread about this last year.

You play some on the ml and some on the run line and it works out so you get a better price than -1. I'm not sure the exact pecentages.

Heres a post from Illini about the being able to make your own -1 line with any sportsbook. You end up getting an extra 2 or 3 cents when you make your own.

I like to -1 more than the -1.5.

Here is the post with the formula.

Curt- If you like -1, you can get a better line by betting some on the ML and some -1.5. Pinnacle basically rips you off by about 3 cents on every -1 line. It just takes a little algebra, but it's well worth it. Here is an example.

Pinnacle
White Sox (-132)
White Sox -1.5 (+164)
White Sox -1 (+111)

Instead of betting 100 to win 111 at -1, do this.
Bet $56.90 at -132 to win $43.11
Bet $43.11 at -1.5 (+164) to win $70.70.
If White Sox win by 1, you break even, just like the -1 line.
If they win by 2 or more, you win $113.81 instead of $111.
So, you get almost +114 instead of +111

You just have to know how much to bet on the ML, then bet all the would be profits from that on the -1.5 line. To figure out how much to bet on the ML, just do this.
Take 100/132=.7576
Add 1 = 1.7576
Take 100 and divide by 1.7576.
=56.90

Hope that helps. I love algebra, so let me know if you have any questions.

Great advice Chop, for those new around here that attend to follow a true winner, I suggest STRONGLY you check in with Choptalk's picks every day....this guy is a true capper who puts his all into every selection he makes.

And a bit of advice to you Chop, form the get go, know that if ppl do follow you and you hit a cold spell, don't stop posting cause you feel bad when ppl lose money following you. I know this happened last year to you and alot of ppl missed out on a great run you had following a rough streatch.......
