OUCH. I watch less than 1 game a week and then that is only the last 3 minutes. Had Minny +4 and some seldom used undersized guard takes the in bounds pass down by 5 and rushes down court with 3.4 seconds to play, no one even tries to defend him. Gets to 3 point area slows down and hands ball to ref.
Don't know the player but I can't imagine he has scored many points in his career, even the crowd (gamblers I think) can be heard yelling in background. I know this happens alot in hoops but this was bad.
I didn't deserve to win but at least shoot the ball, damn you drove down the court to a spot and stop and hand ball to ref.

Would have rahter not seen it and just seen final score on computer screen. OUCH!!!!!!:nohead:

I didn't see it...ESPN should have a segment each night for these 'point spread' plays...They could have Maalox sponsor it.

"And now we turn to Brent with the Maalox mashers of the evening, Brent" :smoking:

the funny thing was him and another player both looked at each other and to take ball out (like they both wanted to be the one to get a shot off). This player hurries down court and doesn't even shoot, I wonder if a seldom used player realizes how many people in the "world" that are watching this are cursing at him when it is over. The sad part is the guy is somewhat a goat in the eyes of the gamblers, not saying he cares, but pretty sure he doesn't know.
Like how some degenerate would be postong about this guys 5 seconds of fame on an internet forum the next day.

Why he did not shoot is beyond me............what was he trying not to do, lower his shooting percentage.

Was sitting with the GOPHERS at +4 so obviously I was very upset.

honestly thought the same thing, must be some stat geek that didn't want ot hurt his stats. Can't think of know other reason to RUN down court and hand ball to ref.
Felt like I never deserved to win this one but these are the type wins that can make for a profitable month and yesterday was month end record keeping day, so it hurt a little more.

Not out of the realm of possibilities that he or his friends had the ILLINI at -4 ..........not out of the realm of possibilities whatsoever, sad to say.

I doubt it. Most of the world doesn't give two shits about point spreads and gambling. I know that is hard for many of us to accept.

Come on now, Fish. If that's the case then why did they foul with 2.4 seconds down 4?

A lot of guys just dribble out when the game is decided either way. Might also be a factor that Illinois wasn't trying to defend him at all. If they were defending then maybe they try to something. But rushing up a meaningless shot against a team walking off the court is kinda weak. Illinois was the right side. Not a bad beat for Minny backers.

doesnt make sense to foul with 3.4 seconds...then not to take a last second shot. if you are down 4, you need two scores...why foul? if you are fouling, you think you may have a shot at hitting a three, stealing the in bounds pass and hitting another so...why not take the shot?

makes no sense.

Thats what i said!!! Probably had something to do with the IDIOTIC part of senior night where they feel the need to take them out of the game before it ends..thats a stupid tradition and probably had something to do with the final outcome.

i was watching the last few minutes of the game and, at the final time out with 3.4 seconds left, i could swear i saw the coach for minny telling his players "do not foul". he said it twice.

Saw that play as well, but I thought the key was when the Golphers were making a late run and down 56-60, stole the ball on a breakaway and the referee not only didn't call an intentional foul, but a simple foul that resulted in an out of bounds for Minnesota. Then the refs followed up with a quick offensive foul on the Golphers and then a third foul. I thought I was watching the Superbowl all over again. That sequence decided the non cover in my opinion. Even the announcers couldn't believe the calls. Big swing from plus points to minus points.

That play was a pile of shit...went from what should have been 2 shots AND the ball to nothing at all..

that was some bad officiating but, it was not even close to the superbowl. (btw, thanks for pouring salt on a wound that was almost healed).

Not that it mattered but the score was Illini by 6 points. I had Illinois -3.5 and I thought for sure the guy would hit a three at the buzzer. Illinois also made every free throw at the end or it could have been really a nail biter.
