I've been out the last five years and done the Mandalay, MGM, Casers circuit standing for ten hours w/ long lines at the windows.

Any tips on "hidden gems" w/ a decent book to watch the games that won't be horribly crowded near the strip or downtown w/ any possibility of a seat upon 7AM arrival? I've heard the Nugget is not bad...

Any other suggestions?

Keep wishing. Even pitiful dumps are booked up from 6am on those two days. I know its nirvana to some, but I just pick out a few games of personal interest and then build my plan around that. I usually figure I am going to stand a bit, but if it is just an hour or two no big loss.

Your best bet might be a local bar, but obviously you lose the benefit of a sports book windows and drinks. Even those will get crowded, although nothing like a book.

Coming to Vegas for these days is an event, you have to look at it that way. Just as you could much easier watch the games alone at home on the couch, with a better view, you still might want to go to one of the sites and spend hundreds for tickets, plane fare, and hotels. Going to Vegas is not cheap and certainly not without its hassles. Still people do it annually so it must be worth it to lots of people.

I've been going to March madness in Vegas for close to 20 years now. I would say the Mirage is the place to enjoy the excitement at but you better come early or plan on standing in a big crowd. :drink:

The Nugget or Caesars

The Nugget or Caesars...when with a larger group of people I prefer Caesars for the convenience and the amazing commentary from the first time bettors.

If your worried about the crowd I would recomend staying home. I've been going for years and love the intensity and atmosphere of the crowds at the Mirage, nothing like it. Will be leaving right after Selection Sunday with laptop in hand. :modemman:

I live in Vegas now and last year I went to the Hilton, it was great. I believe it is the best, and definitely the most underrated book in Vegas. They have great prop bets and the seating area is huge. Its off the strip, so it won't be as crowded, but it will still be pretty packed. I got a seat there last year after waiting a little while. Anywhere on the strip will be impossible to get a seat.

You hate people period, Rail.... happy, cheering, sad, mad..... the only way you like people is when some newbie is kissing your ass because he thinks you can handicap tennis or golf.

i guess i am just like railbird. after moving to vegas and spending everyday in race and sports books you get to hate people. i hated the crowd cheering on every play in every game.
don't get me wrong. when i was younger and going to vegas on vacation for a week, i was one of those people i ended up hating. also got to detest slot players. drove me crazy the noise from those slot machines. i guess i am in the need for some physicological help. all those years in race and sports books did it to me. wonder if i could sue the casino and win?
