Could be a "strange" field of 65 this year...

Every year, we have new teams join the dance, and some good teams not make it, but usually there is a "standard" group of teams, that make it most every year....Rarely is there a year such as this, where the "storied" programs are on the bubble, and the "rookies" are the locks.....

Teams like George Mason, Wichita State, Nevada, Hofstra, are looking stronger for the field than many of the "traditional" teams...

Some of the following teams are on the bubble, and may very well make the tourney, but none are LOCKS right now....just imagine an NCAABB tourney, without any of the following...

Kentucky
Indiana
Purdue
Syracuse
Oklahoma State
Stanford
Georgia
Notre Dame
DePaul
Wake Forest
Maryland
GA Tech
Utah
Louisville
Xavier

Now granted some of these teams have been "cold" for a couple years or so now, but these are BIG NAMES in college basketball and none have "locked" up a bid as of yet, and the majority on the list have NO SHOT at making the field.....very strange year indeed...

Mason, UNCW, and Hofstra are all deserving teams. Hopefully Hofstra beats VCU and then knocks off Mason...if this happens, and UNCW wins its first game then loses to ODU, and ODU beats Hofstra in the championship, there's a possibility the CAA could get FOUR teams...something I'm hoping for, as it's a strong conference this year. Three need to go, for sure...so long as Hofstra doesn't blow it vs VCU.

Really? Sucks, I could've met up with you had I been in Richmond(I go to VCU)...but I'm actually at Notre Dame this weekend. Have fun at the tourney, it should be one of the best.

I'm telling you, if Hofstra gets to the conference finals, I guarantee you they'll send three. Realistically, Hofstra needs to knock off GMU again to solidify it.

You know, I wouldn't be sad if you were right Jacks...Gary Neal is incredible; I'd love to see him get some national attention, even if Towson would have no shot in the 1st round. It's all gonna depend on his health. If that ankle is better, Towson's gonna be a bitch for anyone to handle. I'm gonna be on 'em for tomorrow against GA St. at the very least.

I'm still definitely pulling for Hofstra, though. CAA needs 3 bids. Hard to fathom this league potentially getting 2 or 3 and NONE of them are ODU, who is easily the most talented team in the league. If they make a run and win it all(which they very well could and SHOULD), they'll give some #4 seed serious trouble like they did against MSU last year...a game they would've won had they played half as decently as they can.

Kentucky is in...Maryland is out, Notre Dame and Wake cleary out ...Syracuse may be the last teams to get an at large bid, although after tonights shellacking, they may be out too!

This is the most watered down I have ever seen college basketball, we're gonna see some real Cinderella teams going deep into this tournament!

I wouldn't be surprised to see a very low seed reach the final four....this could be the year a number 16 beats a number 1...we're getting closer all the time...there's not much difference at all, between the #10 team and the #30 team.

This field is lousy. There are 5 good teams, maybe 7 or 8 getting hot at the right time, and then the rest are going to get killed. I usually say momentum is overrated going into any playoffs, but in the NCAA it might mean everything. These teams are so different from week-to-week you might get a hot team just cracking the top 25 that goes on a major roll.

Nice

(and conveniently bumping this thread, again, nice.)

Yes it is a nice call and Blue Edwards was not the one who brought this thread back - that would be creeg - and WTG , it's good to look back at this thread now. Don't think anybody saw it playing out quite like this.
