Interesting clause if no NFL deal is reached....

What are the long-term ramifications for the league?
Barring a new CBA, the players either will be on strike or the owners will lock out the players in 2008. The union likely will decertify, and antitrust rules will apply. Also, the NFL draft will go away in 2008 as part of a clause inserted into the current CBA. Players coming out of college could be free agents, with no salary restrictions. Open negotiations, including those for rookies coming out of college, will leave it to the players to get what they can get.

NO NFL DRAFT??? What the hell kind of crazy effect will this have on the league? Can't imagine a major professional league without some sort of draft.

I don't think anyone believes any of this will happen. If there was no draft it would be a free-for-all for the top talent and then players who might normally fall to round 5-7 probably don't get much of a call. The best teams might want to go out and buy up some good talent, but if they are spending a lot most will want some proven NFL performance.

No draft means groups of players banning together and picking a team they want to go to. That or it will be like the old days when prospective players went to open tryouts for teams in there area. It would also mean no chance for marginal athletes to make the leauge which will hurt the NFL in the big picture because there are players that take time to develop but pay off big at some point if they stick around.

Unfortunatley it will become like baseball...and basically ruin the sport.
Richest teams will always be in the playoffs,with the highest ranked college players on the richest teams.
If they don't come up with a deal its really going to suck and be a disaster.
